There is a nice, 2 mile trail up to the top accross and down, so it does require some effort going up. Once up, the view is great. The path then goes for perhaps a half a mile along the cliffs. Cable fences are there...More

This is a must-do hike when visiting Highlands. It is a moderate hike with a few steep spots on the way back down. Take the wide, old logging road up to the first vista. The trail narrows as it continues up to an elevation of...More

The views are beautiful and the hike is not that bad. It is a bit of a walk but worth it. Come ready to take pictures and relax!

The hike up Whiteside Mountain is easy to moderate. The trail to Devil's Courthouse, which begins from the same parking area, is moderate, longer at 4+ miles roundtrip (in and out) and the views are fantastic!

Take your time going up, it is a steady uphill grade. The views were well worth the effort. We were there in the second week of November, and less leaves on the trees allowed views one would not see in the summer months. View from...More

The path seemed longer than I thought it would feel, but there are views up there and they are incredible! There is a small cash fee for parking, so you may want to bring some ones.

Bring $2 for the self-pay to access to the park. Plan on a two mile fairly strenuous trek up the mountain. Once you reach the summit, the earth opens up below. Spectacular vistas. Be sure to go south along the summit to see more.

Hi, does anyone know of any campsites around this mountain? Thanks!

The best spots near Whiteside are both approximately 3-4 miles west of Highlands off Highway 64 west, to wit: Cliffside Recreation Area and Van Hook Glade. Both have nice campsites with views of Cliffside Lake.
Is hiking this mountain the week of Thanksgiving doable? I know weather is always a factor, but just wondering if anyone was able to get to this hike in the last couple of years during Thanksgiving? Our trip is planned during that week and we are hoping to get in some waterfall hikes as well too.

We have only been on, and seen hiking trails, but there are biking trails listed for: Blue Valley and Yellow Mountain trails near Highlands. Panthertown Loop, in Glenville, (about 15 miles from Highlands), is also listed... More
