We just had to see the national bird. We timed it for feeding time.Such an adorable bird with several varieties which was surprising. Very knowledgable and friendly keeper- answered any questions well. The rest of the birds and animals were also really interesting too. Enjoyed it immensely.

Otorohanga Kiwi House is a must-visit attraction if you're interested in seeing these birds. Feeding time is something to look forward to as it pretty much guarantees you to see the Kiwi's, and one is especially large, something that surprised the whole group ! The rest of the park is well set out and has a large selection of birds... More

We found this very interesting, the chance to see kiwis was incredible. As they are nocturnal their habitat is dark but once our eyes were accustomed we could see the kiwi clearly, far better than I expected. The other bird exhibits were also interesting and it's well laid out. The kiwi talk by one of the staff was interesting. We... More

Just arrived in Otorahanga after a 6 hour drive. Decided to visit the Kiwi House & native Bird Park to stretch the legs and see some Kiwi and native birds. Entry fee for an adult is $24. There is a board at the entrance showing times for keepers talks and feeding times of certain birds. First exhibit is the Kiwi... More

Otorohanga Kiwi house has 4 resident Kiwi's, we were fortunate enough to be there early in the day and chat with the keepers and watch them clean the enclosures. Where we got to see one of the Kiwi's demonstrate her territorial protection which was some what cute but wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it. The house... More

Thank you so much for visiting with us. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your visit and seeing the kiwi and other NZ wildlife. You're right that it's not much fun being on the receiving end from one of our Great Spotted Kiwi when she decides to defend her territory with rigour! Thankfully our awesome staff take it in their... More

We've done Kiwi viewings in nocturnal houses in other places and have found it hard to see the birds, peering through the glass at shadows and hoping they were kiwi. But at the Otorohanga Kiwi House, we easily saw them and particularly enjoyed the talk by the keeper during which she predicted that she would be fending off a territorial... More

We happened across this kiwi house on our way through to matamata from waitomo caves and what a great decision we made to stop and visit. Try to stay for one of the feedings and talks from the staff to make your visit even better. We got to see several kiwis, tuatara and many other native birds and wildlife. A... More

Aside from the kiwi feeding we witnessed, the rest of our time here was just okay. It was hard to see some birds in the outdoor areas, but we did enjoy the kiwi!

Thank you for visiting with us! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing kiwi and some of the unique birds and reptiles around our park. Sometimes spotting NZ wildlife can be a bit of a challenge - in particular when the weather is very hot as animals quite sensibly head to the shadier areas of their enclosures. It can be really helpful... More

I really loved Kiwi House!! The park itself is small so make sure you make the best use of your time and entry fee by attending keeper talks and feeding times. It was a great experience and a perfect chance to see Kiwis in action. I saw several Kiwis on my visit and one very active one walking around and... More

So glad to hear you enjoyed your visit with us! We really love the new nocturnal house 'Kiwi Night Zone' and can't wait to redevelop our existing nocturnal house further. Experiencing the regular keeper talks throughout the day really helps visitors understand the unique characteristics of each individual animal as well as gain an insight into the work being done... A really fabulous time. Super-duper helpful and knowledgeable staff. They have regular keeper-talks / interactions throughout the day which I recommend you find out when they are and be there as it improves the enjoyment, interaction and learning.

How fabulous that you had your first sighting of a kiwi here! Aren't they incredibly quirky birds? So glad to hear you enjoyed your experience of one of our regular keeper talks.
