This was incredible, highly recommend, but not for the faint hearted if you don't like being underground, although I don't like being underground but found it absolutely amazing so definitely give it a try. So much history about the area and the guide was very informative. My 9 year old loved it.

We purchased the 3 cave combo ticket - Glow Worm Cave, Ruakuri and Aranui. This was by far my favourite cave tour for not only the cave but also Rudy the tour guide from Black Water Rafting. It is a very deep cave and you walk down a relatively recent man-made graduated spiral walkway to the cave floor to begin... More

There were many cave exploration options in Waitomo to choose from. We think the two-hour guided Ruakuri Cave tour was both a good value and a good exploration of the beautiful underground caverns of Ruakuri. The explanation of glowworms was fascinating and we had a good period of time on our tour to explore these interesting little creatures. The only... More

When heavy rains partially closed Waitomo cave we decided to visit Ruakuri instead. It was a longer tour and we still got to see some glow worms. The formations are quite spectacular. As others have mentioned, it is a wheelchair-accessible cave and there were two wheelchairs on our tour. We had no issues with the cave, however I couldn't help... More

Dom you're the Bomb!, he was our tour guide and he made it great. Was well worth the trip, lots of information and history on the area. The time goes pretty fast and we had a wonderful walk through the caves, lots of glow worms to see and you have a great appreciation of the caves.

An amazing opportunity to visit a great cave which is accessible. A spiral ramp takes you down and back up. The cave has great rock formations, glow worms and is very navigable on a scooter with a guide. Met the group at the cave as I could not use the free transfer bus. I really enjoyed it, but thought there... More

Interesting walk...the walkways were very nicely done, pacing was good and interesting things to see: typical cave formations, a river running through the caves, glowworms, etc.

Had a really great time with the Ruakiri Cave tour. It was a shame to not be able to get photos of the glowworms, but I wouldn't have had a camera of taking these photos anyway. And if this is done to protect the little guys, then I don't think it was any loss. Our guide Jim was awesome, funny... More

The tour was really fun and our teenagers enjoyed it. We went on a rainy day so it was perfect time to explore.

For someone with claustrophobia I wasn't sure I could survive this experience. The entrance to the cave is man made and in itself fairly amazing, going in a spiral down and down and down into this amazing labyrinth of the cave. There are huge stalagmites and stalegtites, the caves are well lit and our guide was superb in his constant... More
