Having been spoilt by recently travelling the Scottish West Highland train journey, this train journey was a little disappointing by comparison. Much slower and no heating. We were surrounded by extremely loud mouthed tourists who had no self awareness of how noisy they were. This...More

We'd been before but many years ago, we were pleased to see the car park is still free & the cafe & shop are still good value. A family ticket was about £22 and for an hour or so activity we think this represents good...More

Although only a short line it is well worth visiting for the time spent at Gelert's Farm museum and engine shed, which has some fascinating exhibits. The staff were friendly and helpful, which is always a bonus.

Plus points: Reasonably priced Volunteers friendly Shop and cafe excellent Museum half way up the line is interesting Negative Points: Journey short Carriages uncomfy On the whole best suited to younger children who would find a longer journey boring. However not bad value for money

Day five of our holiday and we were pretty much exhausted. We decided to have a quiet day 'close to home' so headed in to Porthmadog. The Welsh Highland Railway was fairly cost effective at just over £21 for a family of four. There aren't...More

After having a fantastic experience last summer we decided to return this year. An older gentleman (in an orange jacket), who we presume was a volunteer? we noticed was being very off hand and rude from the start of getting on the train. However we...More

Visitors buy tickets and board the train at Porthmadog. The station is at the north end of town, across the High Street from the main line railway station, so it's a walk from the F&WHR station. WHHR trains run "out and... More
