We called in as we were driving past, so we haven't completed the hikes around the area. However, others have reviewed these.
I drove past the first parking area, and boy am I glad I did as between this an the waterfall is a very steep and narrow road that I certainly would not enjoy walking up.
The waterfall is a free attraction so can be very busy and always a few people swimming in the pond at the bottom. Have been provided here, so things can get a little chaotic.
There is also a nice stretch of river to sit for a while and ponder life.
It's worth a visit if you are in the area, however, you haven't missed a major event if you don't make it

Lovely hike in the nature. You can expect hights, stairs, watefall and forest. The trail takes around 2-3 hours and is worth experiencing

I did an 8km route through the area. Salto do Cabrito didn't seem like anything special to me, but the route in general is very pretty.

This was a pretty waterfall with a nice little hike. I wish we had known that we could have parked closer to the waterfall; we had quite a work-out with the steep hills but the surfaces were easy enough to negotiate. It was fun to see a group rappelling and the area was generally pretty.

Really cool waterfall with a walkway up and over it. The road to get there is really steep. Be cautious going down it. There is a parking lot at the top as well if you don’t want to take your car down there.

You may find value in hiking this (we decided against it), but from a bang for buck perspective, this is easily accessible by going down the steep road down into the park area with the waterfall. From the common parking area it is a short 5 minute walk to the falls. Do not park up top if you don’t have to as then you have to walk down the steep road. A beautiful waterfall very much worth checking out for the sights. If you found this helpful, please indicate so I know where to focus my future efforts.

Can anyone tell me where the exact starting point is for the trail? I went to the Azores website and there is a trail PRC 29 - but I am having a difficult time on google maps to determine the actual route. We are planning to do in July.
Thanks!

Hi Nitin, we were really lazy about it - haha, and followed the sign for Salto do Cabrito, there is a signposted left turn off the road and shortly after you will probably see half a dozen or so cars parked. But you will notice there is a road continues down the hill from where the cars are parked. You can take the road down almost to the waterfall itself. It is steep and winding but easily drivable if you go slowly. At the bottom is another car park and from there it is only a few metres to the waterfall itself. As I say, we felt really lazy driving, but looking at the hard work some folks were having walking back up the winding steep road, we were quite glad we did!!!

Hi Hallette....there are better and nicer plaçe to visit in São Miguel than Salto do Cabrito. If you're looking for a hike and a much fuller waterfall then head on to Sanginho (Salto do Prego).
However, if you have not been to São Miguel before, you must go to Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Canário. Enjoy!
Hola Pedro
I would like to know how to drive there by car as my mother cannot walk very well. Do I have to turn on EN5-2A and take those bends or shall I take unnamed road from ER3-1 to the right? From Googlemaps it is not obvious where the walking path is.
Thank you so much for your advice

You can drive all the way down. Just follow the signs for it and keep going. We parked at the top and walked and then realized we could have driven down. Its worth the trip. We loved swimming under the waterfall. And the hike up to and behind the water fall is worth doing.. your mother would not do well with that however. Its quite intense and beautiful.

Hi Meghan:
We are thinking of going to the Azores in October and wonder how your experience at this time of year was. Weather, attractions open/closed? We'd like to do water activities such as whaling and fishing. Is it available?

Hi. The weather in the Azores is alittle unpredictable at a long term, but usually we have good weather, nice temperature, but bring some warm clothes, just in case...
About activities there are several companies specialized on activities like fishing and whale/dolphin watching or even hikes and canyoning... just try to google "Azores fishing" or "Azores whale watching" and you'll have access to a lot of information, most of it in English.
I hope this was helpful! ;-)

Hello,
Can visitors drive to the Salto do Cabrito waterfall? I just stumbled upon a review where the reviewer said he drove there. I will be visiting in March but traveling with 2 very young kids. Hiking to the waterfall isn't an option but I'm pretty excited to know that we might be able to drive to it!

Hi there. First of all, and as an Azorian, let me congratulate you on your great choice on coming to the Azores! :-D
About your question, yes. As the other persons here said, it is possible to drive right to the waterfall. However it is advised to drive VERY slowly because the path is a little bit narrow and a bit steep, but perfectly doable. If you have other issues or questions about "my" island, feel free to contact me.
No strings attached or second intentions. :-)
