This tiny ancient church is so worth a visit. Set in a cave, with Byzantine paintings it is incredible to behold. It's perfectly cool and gorgeously ancient and surprisingly well preserved. A must-see in Modica!

We would not have found this historic site if not for the person at the visitor's center. It is an amazing example of the preservation that goes on in Sicily. The picture identifying the site is not accurate.

Of all the churches in Modica, and there seem to be many, this is the one I wouldn't have missed. It's in a little street near the big church of St Peter. You have to ring the bell to gain entry. It's very cold and...More

A little gem - you have to ring the bell and wait for someone to open up - a church in a cave with wall paintings dating back hundreds of years. Atmospheric and fascinating.
