This small church near the city beach looks very simple on the outside but the interior is surprisingly beautiful. It is full of paintings, painted wood stalls, statues and it has an exceptionally fine 18th century tile floor. The paintings are unexpectedly good given that they are works of unknown local Baroque artists. Another plus that it is constantly open even during the afternoon when all the churches are closed (at least that was the situation in October 2015). After the cathedral this is second most important sight in the old city.

Kind of like an LSD flashback. Hard to imagine what it looked like to people a few centuries ago. They must have been in awe.

Magnificent church, where devoted followers of the Virgin have been roaming towards for several centuries. But the church conceals a surprise in the paintings. You have to ask for the time the surprise will be unveiled.

So richly decorated inside, not a single cm without painting and decoration. You can just sit there and look at the ceiling for half an hour... Open in the morning, not sure after 13:00, with the Duomo the only one accessible, while all churches are supposed to be open at least up to 12:00.

Also worth a visit, a short stay at this chiesa shows you, as many times in Salento region, a wonder of baroque decoration, religous history and worship, here with a special attention to seamenship.

On a morning stroll make sure to check out the sea facing churches, 4 in a row and this one truly the most beautifully decorated. Definitely one of Gallipoli's treasures.

A simple façade with little decoration contrasts with a very rich interior, with a splendid floor and a well-decorated wooden choir.
