About

Offida, what a nice little corner of history! Good food and nice little shops. If you see no cars around, you may think you are in the past...

Original 11th century church enlarged in the 14th century, it stands on the bluff on the remains of a castle. The pale coloured brick is a stark statement as it stands without modern building sto take from the effect. Beautiful 13/14th century frescoes. 2.50 euro entry. The custodian was very friendly and informative.

I may be a bit biased as this is the town my family came from, but this church and its history are quite impressive. Considering the current state of the frescos the church has a beauty very different from the many that we visited in Italy. The structure really shines. The stories about the various political struggles the church lived through are interesting. The church's horse stairs are tricky to navigate. The view overlooking the country side are spectacular especially if you are there just before sunset.

We revisited Offida to see this church as one of us had seen a documentary on television. This imposing church on the edge of the town survived the many mines placed during WW2, making many faithful believe it was a miracle. The vast interior is beautifully simple with its plain stone walls. The entrance is at the crypt then you go upstairs to the nave with more frescoes and a statue. It is only a 5 minute walk from the town hall and well worth seeing. The young man on the ticket desk was very informative and was kind enough to leave the church open for extra time.

Our friends who had lived in this town fifteen years ago were amazing and delighted by the magnificent restoration of the beautiful old church.
Essential to visit the grotto down stairs and the animated village where puppets act out daily life includes, all pinning, fishing and cooking. Small children would be amazed.

The church is beautiful inside and out. There's a cost to enter but it's completely worth it as it's quirky inside. Look for the bones!

Il parcheggio è vicino all'entrata?
Grazie a chi risponde!
