We did a private cycling tour. The bicycles were in reasonable condition and the guide was excellent. A long ride (18 miles), we got to visit caves with bats, visit blacksmiths and woodworkers, see turtles, and visit Portuguese ruins. Everything was top notch. Highly recommended.

We strongly recommend talking the trip with Zanzibar Cycling Adventure! The guides are very nice, knowledgeable and professional. You will get the opportunity to see places you would not reach otherwise, interact with local people and have an active day. Worth the price! P.s. The bike seats are not the most comfortable, so if you want to be able to sit the next day maybe use some kind of cushion. ☺️

Ok, firstly, the office is not so easy to find so consider getting picked up from your hotel! If you have a better sense of direction than I do: the office is behind the dhow builder/restorer that you can see on Nungwi beach. More importantly - this was a completely brilliant tour. One of the two reasons I had gone to Nungwi was to see the caves, but we weren’t allowed in on the day of our tour because a big snake had moved in and people were quite upset about it. So, I didn’t get to see the thing I’d travelled around most of the planet for but I had such a great time I didn’t much care. It’s really well paced, you do get to see loads and it feels refreshingly genuine. Gombo has done such a great job of putting the tours together. Sometimes it can feel like all the tourist money just goes to the same few people in an area, but that it’s not easy to distribute it further without intruding on communities that prefer not to have tourists visit them. Gombo takes all the stress out of this by working with the villages and locals who are happy to have some low key, sustainable visits. He’s a goldmine of local cultural information and if it wasn’t the right day or time for us to visit someone (the dhow builder wasn’t at work) then more emphasis was put on other activities. We met great people, saw wonderful craftsmanship, traditions, wild swam in a cave, tried weaving and blacksmithing, stopped for roadside snacks, explored ruins and I got to ride a really terrific bicycle! I am rubbish on a bike and it was well within my capabilities. The road is very good and the off-road surfaces are fine with a little bit of attention paid to them. I’m so glad we did this tour. Please support this great business.

My wife and I booked 2 tours. Pick-up at our hotel and then to collect the bikes. Fine interesting routes in different areas in the northern side of Zanzibar. Visits and talks to local people. Saw several caves and in one of them it is possible to swim. Breaks with water and fresh fruit. We can highly commend these tours.

Booked via email address on TA , quick response , they picked us up from hotel on time. Gombo was our fab guide and after he fitted us to the correct bike - we were off , following him and his cool box strapped on the back! This is a cleverly organised trip - at each stop, caves, blacksmiths, ruins you are introduced to the community guide and given the tour. Each attraction /community has a tip box and deservedly so- the blacksmiths is humbling and they let you have a go at hammering the hot moulted steel nails that they make! Buy the nail you make , you’ll regret it if you don’t! The fruit stop is thoughtful,as all fruits offered have a skin and are peeled for you ( so you don’t have to worry about a tummy upset😉) The kids coming from school are fascinated to see the ‘loco cyclists ‘! It rained full pelt on us on the way back - soaked thru too pants! But it was still awesome! An experience you’ll never forget and superb value too! The price included transfers all attractions and the fruit/water. But take a few shillings for tips.. Top tips - take a waterproof bag. The cycling is mostly flat and easily managed using gears 3-5 ( we are aged 52/53😉) And ladies do take a shawl to cover your shoulders and respect the villages culture- I was in shorts, and although the locals would never show offence, they appreciate any gesture A must do morning activity that gives an opportunity to see all sorts of the life in north eastern Zanzibar 💕
