Stayed at the Cedar Retreat lodge and LOVED it….bit cold in the morning and evening, but with an open fire in the main building and small wood-burning stoves in the cabins, you are never very far from being warm! The surroundings are stunning, with lush forest all around, and the view from the platform across the water-hole and salt lick was brilliant. The staff were super friendly and very helpful, and whilst the food was limited in choice, it more than made up for it in both quality and quantity - we HAD to go for a forest and river walk to make sure we had enough room for the next meal we were to have!!
If you need a place to away from it all, this is it. There is no Wi-Fi which means there are no distractions and you can recharge and re-energise at your own pace….a wonderful feeling.
Highly recommended.

Get to come face to face with the large Elephants of the savannah. Beautiful park with lots of large elephants and a ton of wildlife. I enjoyed my tour courtesy of Bonfire Adventures.

This is by far one of my favourite parks I enjoy visiting. We stayed at the KWS guest house which is simple and to the point. We took a game drive and did not see any game on the side of the park we were at. We entered the park through Naivasha highway which was a first for me. Managed to visit Chania falls and Karuru falls which is my favourite spot. Took a 7km hike to the falls which was lovely, just wish they could fix that road so the car would have driven along side us as we hiked in case of emergency.

Aberdare park was amazing. It is green and has many different animals you can see. In addition there are some (very) short hikes you can do to see different interest points. It is big enough and not too crowded. We had an amazing time.

I stayed 2 days in Aberdare national Park in August 2022. The landscape of the park is beautiful and varied; it is composed of forest mountains and savannah with many flowers ; there are many fine waterfalls and swamps where animals come to drink. The fauna in Aberdare national Park is rich, including the rare and beautiful bongos. In the park, during safaris, we have seen:
- herds of majestic elephants with babies : unforgettable and fantastic!!!
-giant forest hogs
- spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals
- other mammals, e.g.: buffalos, impalas, warthogs…
- a lot of colouful birds.

Taken together, I highly recommend to visit Aberdare national Park.

I would like to bring the attention and report a car accident in the Aberdare Park.

On 12.02.2022 a lorry belonging to the company Nakufleet damaged our vehicle during construction work in Aberdare Park, causing extensive damage to our vehicle. The accident was reported to the police station Mwenga.
The road in Aberdare Park was not closed and there were no indications from construction works.
We asked the other party and the person responsible for the accident to pay for the damage. The company Nakufleet refuses to settle the damage as there are no official roads in the park and no insurance covers the costs. The damage amounting to 200,000 KES was paid privately by us.
I advise self-drivers in Kenyan parks to note that no insurance covers damage in the parks and that access and passage is at your own risk.

Average park with very dense woodlands. We didnt spend too much time there but from
What we could figure out and with the locals there are hardly any cats and hyenas are the apex predators which we saw just one. Better parks to see in the country.

Aberdare National Park is famous because the queen visited the park. But it's also a nice park to visit. You could stay at Treetop or the Ark to see animals in close distance. You could hike Le Satima, Elephant Hill in the park. It's very cold in the evening. Make sure you wear warm clothes.

Abedares is a great place to visit if you want to visit waterfalls and do a bit of a nature hike. I really wouldn't say this is the best place for a game drive. You may be lucky to see the wild life on the main roads as your driving thu. You are up in the mountains and not flat land to easily see the wildlife.
