    Wanaka - An underrated place
Wanaka, a resort town on New Zealand's South Island, is set on the southern end of its namesake lake with views of snowcapped mountains. I think this is probably an underrated place with neighboring Queenstown garnering all the attention. Wanaka has a lot of things going for it starting with the incredible Lake Wanaka and the famous solo tree. It has bustling town center with a great food truck scene. Lots of activities for kids. And last but not the least the Wanaka. Transport and Toy museum (an absolute gem)

Maybe one of the last laid back, chill beach towns!! Perfect day!
We are staying in Queenstown, which is amazing and wonderful. But it's a little hectic. So we did a day trip to Wanaka and had the best time. It's like Queenstown . . .only chill. Less steep, less traffic, less construction, and more just sunshine, beaches, and fields of grass and happy sheep. If you are here for an extended vacation I'd say spend 1-2 nights in Wanaka just to have a more low key vibe. There are many easy hikes, great beaches all over (we loved swimming here!) and just all the lovely relaxed qualities that most of the world has forgotten.

Love this town. Great outdoors energy. Amazing hiking and biking. Climb a little then enjoy a picnic. Excellent cafes and nice wineries too. Among our famorite places on the South Island.

Beautiful location, scenic views of the township, lake, mountains. Friendly community & Loads of activities from hiking, biking, walking, boating & just chillaxing with a glass of wine, picnic with friends & family. Looks especially beautiful in autumn & winter!

Wanaka in May, still got the picturesque Autumn toning's. You can do as much or as little as you want. Hard hikes or easy strolling tracks. The original shopping centre is still vibrant with the big stores going out of town. A lot of good eateries to choose from.

What a great area/ spot to visit or stay. So much to do either physically, shopping or eating and drinking. Beautiful surrounds no matter where you look.

A beautiful town with so many activities to do - cruises on the lake to islands, U- Fly professional pilot training, Toy and Transport Museum. In addition there are plenty of dining facilities to choose from. Highly recommend a visit.

We spent 5 nights in Wanaka and loved to town.

Such a pretty and chilled town with lots of lovely eateries and bars waterfront overlooking pretty Lake Wanaka. They also have a few small wineries you can visit. Pembroke wines is a bottleshop but they offer seating with wine tasting and local craft beers. An enjoyable place.

It has some small markets and some lovely drives to Lavender farm, Lake Hawea, Lake Wanaka Lookout, Arrowtown and the historic Cardrona Hotel.

Its a place you need a car as I saw very little public transport.

You can also do a catarmaran trip to one of a few nearby islands.

I wasnt a fan of the long windy and hilly road from Queenstown.
