Very beautiful old monastery, worth seeing even if some of the buildings are under restoration because of fire.
But most of all I recommend the beautiful hike from this monastery to Markovi Kuli mountin Prilep.
Took us 1 hour and 40 minutes quick walk. Add 30 minutes for a bit slower walk with time for photostop. We started late and did not want to be caught by the dark.
Stunning wives, especially in sunset! If you like walking do not miss this. Easy to follow route, red and white markings.

One of the highlights of our holiday in Macedonia. The drive and the setting are wild and spectacular. Unhappily the monastery was very badly damaged in a fire in 2015, so much of it looks rather sad, but the mountains are still there, and so it the church. And now they are rebuilding, and there are signs that much need restoration work will begin on the church.
Father Kallist speaks very good English and will explain the history, and the frescos in the church. As well as being beautiful and spirituel they are remarkable in that they cover a long period, from the 16th to 19th century so those who are interested can get an idea of the post-Byzantine styles of this region.
Since we heard about the fire, we were considered not to bother with going. We were persuaded otherwise by the receptionist at the hotel (Atlas). Don't be put off!

I fell in love with this place! We hiked from Prilep to Treskavec monastery, it took us about an hour and a half. The path was so colorful because it was early autumn. We arrived to the monastery just to see the sunset. It was overwhelming! We spent the night there, for free, in the morning we took a tour of the monastery and the church, took a walk around and then went back to Prilep. For me, it is the most mesmerizing place in Macedonia. If you go there, you won't be sorry! :)

While the mountain-top location is impressive, the monastery is currently a construction site. Not worth visiting until the renovation has been substantially completed—which is going to be a while. That said, it is good to see that the monastery is being physically rescued.

I was the only one visiting this place and I don't understand why. It's offering fantastic views over the whole region but best of all this is a magnificent ancient monastery. It's being renovated after a fire but the place still radiates ancient tranquility & history. Very impressive!!

The wonderful small monastery is placed on the top of a high hill. It needs to be renovated after it
burned some years ago.
Nevertheless you can feel the holyness of the place watching the painting inside the church. Quite and silence will help you to find your way to feel yourself.

Beautiful old monastery in dire need of renovation. There was a fire a few years ago which destroyed some of the outer buildings, but luckily the church survived.
The monastery is placed on top of a hill/mountain with a good, but very steep and curvy tarmac road leading up there. Before the road was finished you could only get to the monastery on your feet.
The church is full of wonderful wall paintings and you can only imagine how beautiful it once was.
A great place slightly away from the beaten path.

Sitting just outside of Prilep (follow the signs from the city cemetery), the isolated Treskavec Monastery has a commanding view of the valley below. A newly paved road obviates the need to take a 2-hour hike up to the site. Fr. Kalist is the only monk in residence and will give you a very friendly greeting (he speaks excellent English) and sell you one of the monastery's tee shirts (!). The entire facility is in bad need of repair and restoration, some of which is on-going. Highly recommended.

Hello fellow travellers :)
We are a family that want to visit the Treskavec monastery. Our plan is to take a taxi to the monastery and then walk down via Markov Towers to Prilep.
I read in some place that the marked hiking trail has an exposed section over steep rocks, where you hold on to a metal rail...
-> My question to all of you who hiked the trail: Is there really any such difficult/dangerous sections on the trail? Would you consider the trail safe for a 5 year to walk on his own?
(My 5 year old son must walk on his own, because I will carry a 2 year old on my back)
Many thanks!
/Mats
