Even if an expensive onto the glacier tour is not in your budget, you can have an amazing time and see many beautiful sights with a trip to Skaftafell National Park.

We were looking for a way to fill a couple of hours on the south Iceland coast. Skaftafell National Park caught our attention so packed the camera and backpack. Well worth the trip, great walk into the waterfalls and a great backdrop of ice-capped mountains...More

Admittedly we did not take full advantage of the park during our two days here - but there is so much to do and see here, its impossible to take it all in with the limited time we had! Be sure to pay for parking...More

We didn't have time to do a glacier hike, but this site allowed us to get close and take some amazing pictures. Easy walking paths but the beach area at the bottom of the glacial lagoon is very rocky.

We honestly went to the park to see the waterfall, Skaftafell. While we were racing the clock to get the hike done and off to grab dinner, the hike was easy to navigate, not overly difficult, and definitely had some views worth the work. Skaftafell...More

I would highly recommend going on an organised guided walk of a glacier. One of my lasting memories of my latest trip to Iceland.

You will be grateful that Skaftafell National Park is preserved as a national park once you venture in and come across stunning views, waterfalls and interesting hikes. A quick stop at the visitor center will get you specific remonnendations for what interests you.

Many available hikes with gorgeous views. Trails fairly clearly marked. Beautiful waterfall hike and one which gets you very close to the glacier. Small charge for parking. Friendly staff. Large cafeteria non site with clean bathrooms.

We went during summer which has no night time for us! Can hardly see sunset even at 0200! Not sure during autumn or winter. Better go as early as possible as I believe sunset very early!

The glacier hike we did was one of our top experiences in Iceland. I wouldn't have missed it for anything. The hike was really fun, interesting and even a bit challenging. And you really get to see climate change as the... More
