The Madara horseman is pretty well preserved and easy to access in difference to the fortress above, incolving quite some climbing

Madara Riider is an exceptional work of art, created during the first years of the formation of the Bulgaria. It is the only relief of its kind, having no parallel in Europe. It has survived in its authentic state, with no alternation in the past or the present. The inscriptions around the relief are a chronicle of important events concerning... More

We often travel to Bulgaria as we have a family member living there. So we thought we would try and see something of Bulgaria. There is a gift shop and local taverna to get refreshments. The walk is safe and there are hand rails. It is very steep and exposed in areas though so not for those with a fear... More

I saw that the attraction is paid-Not true.It is free for the public. Now,You might have a tour guide, but it would still be far from those 250 leva. The Rider itself is damaged and eroded from ages that passed, but that makes it somehow even more impressive.

For everyone born in Bulgaria this is a very special place and also one of the symbols of Bulgaria. I would not recommend it to anyone that is not in perfect health however as there are many steps you need to take before you see the monument itself. I also recommend that you book a lecture/guided tour so that you... More

For some reason I imagined this one to be way bigger but it is all right. Rider itself however is not the best spot. The area is magic. Beautiful nature, ancient chapels in the caves and the rocks. It all makes Madara unique and special destination.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Madara Rider is a stone carving about 300 feet above the ground that depicts a knight spearing a lion. It dates back to the First Bulgarian Empire and was carved by a super brave dude between 700-800 c.e. Plan for a few hours to visit the rider, visit the pagan ruins, see the caves... More
