We are a small and cozy school with personal attention. Our school is situated in a beautifully restored building in the city center. The classrooms are spacious with high ceilings, natural light and lots of fresh air. It is the perfect environment for focusing on your Spanish!!!Packages by week include 2 to 6 hours of classes a day, family homestay including three meals a day and a weekly excursion or tour. Our teachers do speak English as it can be helpful in some cases. Classes tend to be in Spanish only."Learn, Know, and Feel Our Language and Our Culture". We offer volunteer.

I am just finished with two weeks at Colibri Spanish School in Matagalpa. And, am already plotting how to make a longer stay happen next year. The school is fantastic, ideal for even those quite serious about their studies. The teachers employ a great deal of student-centered, communicative methodology in their one-on-one classes. The environment inside the school is welcoming... More

My boyfriend and I spent three weeks at the Matagalpa Spanish School and we were delighted with the quality of the teaching, our noted improvement in language skill over our stay, and the fantastic homestay the school arranged. This is a great place not just for young students, but for all ages. We participated in the afternoon activities as well,... More

This school is a wonderful Spanish school. I took classes for 2 weeks here and really enjoyed the experience. I have studied at other Spanish schools and this school was by far my favorite! The teachers are all very experienced and know what they are doing. They balance grammar and structure with cultural context. We listened to several popular songs... More

I just returned from my second visit to the Escuela Colibrí and I am already making plans for a third. The school provides one-on-one instruction, the teachers are creative and dynamic, and the classes are organized around the goals and interests of the student. In addition to intensive practice in conversation and grammar, I had the opportunity to learn about... More

If you're looking to study Spanish in Nicaragua then Colibri, and Matagalpa itself, is a great choice. The classes themselves are good (pretty similar to other Spanish schools I've been to), but what I loved about this place was how communal everything was - I got to know not only my own teacher but other teachers, as well as the... The school was able to accommodate my last-minute request to attend and my teacher was great. The school was centrally located in Matagalpa and I liked my time in the city. The only downside is that if you have class in the afternoon, you can't participate in the school activities, which are normally scheduled in the morning.

I studied at Escuela Colibrí for two weeks. It's a great space and the staff are very warm and welcoming. The teaching approach is well structured but not excessively rigid. My instructor responded very well to my somewhat unorthodox and demanding learning style. My homestay was especially good. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and the food was beyond excellent.... More

Last year I went to a very popular school with lots of tourists who spoke English all the time and everywhere. This school, Escuela Colibri, is much smaller and no one was sitting around speaking english. THe teachers are better paid since they can select better teachers because there are fewer students. The homestay was wonderful, always speaking with me... More

The instructors and facility were the best. Odelba was my maestra and she was really a good teacher I liked being able to walk out of my Spanish lesson and book an activity for the afternoon
