We got to know that this is now the worlds talled stoned carved Buddha statue after taliban destroyed Bhamian buddha statues. The travel to this place was also very nice.

Well worth a visit if you have a driver. It is not that far from Ella and whilst you will only be there for 20 minutes they are impressive statues carved out of rock in the middle of nowhere. It is nice to go to...More

A Buddhist monk suggested we visit this place. It was off the normal tourist route and hence we had the place all to ourselves. Locals know this area well but it's certainly a small wonder that is worth visiting.

Buduruwagala means “the rock with the statue of Buddha” And this is exactly what it is. Seven figured are carved in this rock with a massive 51 foot Buddha statue.

Buduruwagala is not often visited which probably accounts for it being one of the most peaceful Buddhist sites that we saw. Set in a forest grove, the statue of the Buddha with its serene and beautiful face towers over the stone cut frescoes of figures...More
