We didn't find this hike in any of the trail guides but the Park Ranger at the visitor center recommended it. So off we went. Boy were we happy we took the ranger's advise. The trail head is not well marked. It is a bit...More
Wonderful views of Tuolumne Meadow and the surrounding countryside can be had for minimal effort. The walk to the dome is a short and easy one, and climbing the granite dome looked slightly intimidating but was easy as well. Well worth the stop!
We enjoyed our visit to pothole dome. It was a bit of a breathless climb up for the grandparents of two small energetic boys. Beautiful views up here tho. Loved looking down into the meadow and the winding stream.

There is a main trail that curves around one side of the dome, and from there people just picked a place and headed right up the dome itself. The dome was not hard to climb - a little strenuous, but you are rewarded at the...More
What a great place to check out the Tuolumne Valley and surrounds! Park as close to the west side of the parking area/valley as possible since you'll be routed down and around that way anyway for the meadow restoration efforts going on
Take an easy hike to the top of Pothole and avoid the crowds. The day I visited the park service was hosting a 10 am geology talk with USNPS Ranger(?) Brian S. We had a great tour where Brian shared a story of how the...More
Pothole Dome provides an easy way for many folks to experience a bit of hiking uphill without being too taxing.....and the rewards, spectacular! 360 degree views of the beautiful Sierras, with Tuolumne "meadows" below (in the spring, we Easterners would be tempted to call it...More
