Our first stop at Yosemite Village was at the ranger station. We stopped here to buy postcards and ask the ranger when the Tioga Pass would re-open the day before Veteran’s Day. The ranger, Cindy Hall, was very helpful calling a different dept. to get that answer for us. She found out they were in fact going to re-open it at that moment! A minute later, an announcement was made on the P.A. to that effect and the room erupted in a round of applause. Ranger Hall then went on to recommend when we should leave, etc. Very nice, friendly and helpful park ranger!

We bought lunch and a couple beers at the Village Store since the Village Grill was closed. The selection of postcards at the ranger station are prettier (and cheaper) than at the store. There’s also a post office at the village if you need stamps.

We enjoyed the Ansel Adams Gallery and saw a movie about Yosemite in the theatre (a bit hidden). We also visited the Indian Cultural Exhibit which was a replica of an Indian village with dwellings and interpretive signage. It was very interesting and informative. The wind was rustling and the fall leaves were literally “raining” from the trees. It was a beautiful, serene setting.

Yosemite Village is the area of Yosemite Valley that includes the visitor center, the wilderness center, the Ansel Adams Gallery, the Yosemite Museum, the Village Store, and more. We stopped here on our visit to Yosemite National Park. Do be aware parking can be hard to find unless you arrive early. The Village was well-maintained and had a wonderful visitor center and store. We really liked the Ansel Adams Gallery. This is a good place to stop in Yosemite.

We entered the park in through the east entrance and found the line to enter was quite short and only took about 10 minutes. The drive was beautiful over Tioga Pass. In late September there was minimal traffic along the drive except when we got to the Yosemite Village. The valley was full of people and with all the construction, a number of the parking lots were closed. They were recently paved and all but still closed even though the other lots were full. Why not open every space you can? It was a mess at the visitor’s center! Unfortunately we never did find a place to park and never got to even visit the center. I understand the need for construction but it appeared they were not trying to make it easy on visitors. Sad when for many it is a one time visit. They are doing a lot of work in the park which is great unless you are visiting during the construction.

Beautiful but crowded. The drive through to the valley is the best part. Around the lodges and restaurants it is packed with people. Lots to do outdoors but not a serene environment.

If you are in the Valley do it! One way or another you are going to be here if you are in the Valley! The Visitor Center is here as well as the Post Office. Send your friends a post card from here! Yes, some of us still send real postcards.

This was a nice place to stop and relax for a while. The store was well-stocked for such an out-of-the-way location. We didn't eat at the deli, but it was a very clean and cheerful place with a fire burning and people enjoying coffee. We'd definitely come back for a bite or beverage there. The Ansel Adams Gallery was a highlight.

We shopped at the Village gift shop and dropped almost $200 on gifts including Tolumne beef jerky for our daughter as a stocking stuffer. It was not cheap but it was stale and nearly rancid. What a waste. Fortunately our dog likes it.

Sadly, we also bought some nuts in the Yosemite Falls lodge cafeteria - and they were stale - and expensive.

Most stores in the Village are open. Museum closed, Visitor Center closed but they did have staff outside to answer questions and give advice and maps. The Village Store is pretty well stocked with items. We didn't have any way to cook but they did have prepared sandwiches and salads - which we took advantage of for hiking. Parking only for the store is right outside, and just a short walk away is parking for the Visitor Center with very clean flush bathrooms.

Signs - agree with other TA posts - need better directions. Once we did the 'circle' once we figured out where we were going.

We exited Happy Isles through hordes of tourists knowing the shuttle was down due to Covid. We booted from the exit of the JMT into Yosemite Village. Pretty much a disorganized mess, no restaurants open, visitor center and theatre closed. Covid has ruined things here. We did find a grocery store that was open and was able to charge my phone while waiting for the YART bus. I would love to return here when things get back to normal. The backdrop is stunning.
