This was a challenging, but absolutely gorgeous hike! We did it on a chilly November day - it was about 5 degrees C - so it was not crowded at all and both falls were in full swing. We went up the Mist Trail and then down the John Muir trail - it took us about 5 hours with a... More

I was there last spring and it was great. Take some water and cookies with you. It's good even for kids.

This hike is absolutely gorgeous. It's pretty crowded, but the views were worth it. With this said, if you hike to the top of the second falls, it's pretty strenuous. If you're in shape, no biggie. If you're not, you're gonna need to stop frequently. If you have really bad knees, get support. Bring plenty of water, a few snacks... More

We did do this walk, the start is easy to do. Because of that we did walk in a caravan of people. The second loop is more hard to walk and that is where it gets interesting and beautiful.

This is a 4 mile round trip hike with lots of upslopes so it's tiring. But the views make it worth it. The steps are not even because they are chiseled from rocks, and they're also slippery given that the trail is next to a river. So please wear hiking shoes instead of running shoes, which will make you slip... More

Walked this trail up to Vernal falls on a very rainy day in October. It was nice but crowded and when the rain was heavy the stairs felt a bit steep (had our 10 months old baby with us, so were a bit more careful). I don't know if it was just the weather, but this trail was less great... More

We set off from the Valley at 6 in the morning and it took us 6 hours to do a round trip up to Vernal and Nevada Falls then back along the John Muir Trail. I'd definitely suggest doing it this way around as views coming back down John Muir are amazing and the trail is easier, its much quicker... More

The trail starts out wide and paved. But there is an incline as it winds around. I kept stopping to remove layers. It can be tiring. Maybe that goes for about a mile? It then becomes rock steps. Not perfectly formed steps so you have to be cautious as you walk. They get a little more tricky the higher you... More

Very popular trail that is paved and steep until it becomes stairs. This hike is work even for people who are really fit. We went up the stairs and then took the winter route down (2.3 miles additional) to avoid vertigo and save our knees.

Challenging enough for the best hikers, but often forgiving. Even in October, we had a little mist and a view of the falls. Mist Trail goes all the way to Half Dome if you like.
