Great hike and so enjoyed all the trees not just the giants. But I tell you the giants were giant!!! Did not disappoint! Thankfully we were able to hike up with another family: my daughter would have struggle if we didn't. Rough hike up. But...More

We were so longing to see some sequoias and since Mariposa Grove was closed for restoration while we visited, this was one of two alternatives to visit. A 1.5 mile hike downhill gets you to this small Grove, it has a few downed giants as...More

The grove is an old thoroughfare. A carriage path through the base of giant sequoia is worth the visit. We were early and almost had the entire place to ourselves. Besides the upright giant sequoia, there is also an uprooted one and one can see...More

This was our first stop on a gray day. Since Mariposa Grove is closed, we wanted to see some sequoias. This was our option. 2 mile there & back lollipop loop trail. We went early & had the whole trail to ourselves. Very peaceful &...More

Giant sequoias are naturally found only in California, and Yosemite NP has three groves: Mariposa (biggest; closed for restoration until fall 2017), Tuolumne, and Merced (smallest). The Tuolumne Grove & Nature Trail starts from the parking lot on Tioga Road and is 2.5 mi/4 km...More

We went early in the morning and no one was there, it was amazing. We saw a bear grazing in the meadow. The walk is up and downhill but is on paved roads so easy. The trees are just fantastic, photos do not do it...More

Only 1.5 miles in to see the Sequoias, but steep coming back out. Heed the National Park warnings - they are accurate! We are over 65 and hike sporadically. We got down in 30 minutes and back out in 50. Well worth it.

While the Mariposa Grove is closed for restoration this is an excellent option to see big trees. The added advantage is that it is not nearly as crowded. The hike to the grove is downhill, so be prepared for the uphill trek on the way...More

Massive and thousands of years old and still there after being hit by lightning and withstanding forest fires for centuries. The strange thing is the trees outer layer is soft and hairy if you haven't seen one before.

A must see place if you are visiting Yosemite. The small visitors centre is informative. The volunteer staff are pleasant, very helpful and willing to answer any questions you may have regarding the park and the trees.

Hi, Live out. What would you like to know about this attraction? How do we get to this trail head? I heard the Tioga Road is still closed? Do you think this is appropriate for an 8 year old? Thanks for your help! Best, Candy

Hi Tuolumne Grove is open year round. The closure gate for Tioga Road is past the Tuolumne Grove trailhead. You get there by driving to it. It's up Big Oak Flat Road toward Hwy 120 and turn right at the Crane Flat... More

Are dogs allowed if controlled on leash?

No. Yosemite is wild-animal-friendly, not pet-friendly. Pets are allowed on fully paved roads, sidewalks, and bicycle paths. They are not allowed on trails.
