tioga pass area gets you from one point to another in the valley but around the same area are tons of great views and some very nice trails.

The drive from the Yosemite side of the hill up to the summit of the pass is great. Stretch your legs at the lakeside and be above the snow line even in high summer.

But it kind of depends how long of a drive one is willing to take. I say about a two hour or less drive from the Yosemite Valley and back. Anything longer can become a same-old-thing despite being gorgeous.

We entered Tioga Pass from Lee Vinning, the roads in early October were perfect, a bit cold but bright sunlight. As the name 'Pass' suggests, we were expecting tight roads and shear drop offs. It was nothing like that, the roads traveling down 100 miles...More

The drive along Tioga Road and over Tioga Pass is is one of California's most spectacular. The scenery along the way is amazing - Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, views of Mt. Hoffmann, Mt. Conness, Mt. Dana, and the Cathedral Range, and the view from Olmstead...More

Its not open for a lot of the year, and no wonder! But if you get a chance to drive up and down to Le Vinning you will never forget it. A real road builders nightmare, congrats to all who built and maintain it!

We drove from east to west on our way to spend a couple of days exploring Yosemite. My comment was that if I never see any more of the park than I did that day I'd still be happy. Just delightful scenery.

We just barely got to take the Tioga Pass in mid October before an impending snow storm. The pass is beautiful! Lots of awesome scenery! Be prepared for a lot of height - around 11,500ft. Make sure you are ready to be in the car...More

If you're looking mainly for a good spot for staying overnight, I might suggest Mammoth Lakes, although that's nearly all the way to Tioga Pass. A more practical suggestion for breaking up your trip would be Lone Pine. Not... More
