The hike to Lost Lake was suggested by the Ranger at the Tower Ranger Station as one of three great short hikes nearby to Roosevelt Lodge (the other two were the hike along Hellroaring Creek trail down to the suspension bridge and the trail from...More

Decent hike leaving from the lodge. Uphill for the first bit, then a nice walk along the lake and through "meadow". Terrible signage. When you get to the petrified tree, keep RIGHT on the trail and go UP -- don't go left.

The parking lot for this trail was extremely busy, so I thought we'd be sharing the trail with lots of others, but we only saw two other people walking which was bliss. The trail starts behind the Roosevelt lodge, and is very well signposted. It's...More

If you are tired of crowds or have little children with you this is it. It is super easy and on practically flat area compared to others track. No motors no people just soft buzzing of animals and nature. And then if no bears are...More

The Lost Lake Loop is a 2.8 mi/4.6 km moderately-rated hike. The trail starts from Roosevelt Lodge, climbs up a hill to Lost Lake and the Petrified Forest parking area, and descends down to the lodge. My husband and I did this hike on a...More

Went here on a Tuesday and it was a great hike! We started out from the petrified tree and hiked to the lake. We almost turned back but didn't see any wildlife yet. So we kept going to the T junction in front of the...More

This trail can be very steep if you do it in a counterclockwise direction so I do it clockwise from the Roosevelt lodge dining room trailhead. It passes quite close to the most accessible of all of Yellowstone's petrified trees and goes through country missed...More

This is a really nice hike, slightly strenous at the beginning (ascent of a pretty steep slope in the woods), followed by an even trail alongside Lost Lake - a wonderful place where you're almost all alone, the only people we encountered where three horse...More

We chanced upon this trail from the famed Petrified tree spot. It was a half way point from there and it is 1 mile to the Lost Lake one-way. We did it at a leisurely speed where we saw 2 other couples throughout. It was...More

We absolutely loved this hike, for two reasons: the view, and the lack of crowds. The view of the lake, especially when you first start to get views of it and the little valley that it is in, is amazing. The trail is directly behind...More

Beautiful walk. Difficult with all the tall steps (hard on the knees) and elevation but beautiful while you walk and when you arrive. The smoke from forest fires made it hazy but the lake was till beautiful
