The animals were our favorite part of Yellowstone. As another reviewer mentioned, do the speed limit and use pulloffs. We actually had bison crossing right over in front of our car and then they stopped for a walk around our car and for a sniff...More

This road is great for the simple fact that if Bison have caused a major back up one way you can just head around the circle in the other direction to get back to your home base. We shaved literal hours on our return trip...More

We saw 2 elk, a moose, and herds of bison along this loop. The pull offs along the river are excellent to take a quick break and let the kids enjoy the river views. Great views of canyons and mountains as well. Traffic can be...More

What a perfect time to visit! Just ahead of the season. The park wasn't crowded. Snow still on the ground. We saw elk and bison our first day. Elk, bison, coyote our second day. Elk, bison, bears, big-horned sheep our third day. One lake still...More

The Grand Loop is the major roadway - some 147 miles of it - which winds it way through Yellowstone. I drove the look for five days (2-6 June) and here are my recommendations: 1. Be patient. For the most part drivers are courteous and...More

We arrived a few days too early for the ranger guided tours so the self driving tour was more than an adequate substitute and perhaps better as we could pace ourselves. North of Canyon village park roads were closed but plenty to see with what...More

In the span of 60 minutes we saw herd after herd of bison. Probably 400 head or so. Many were up close and personal. Park itself is beautiful. Vehicles never seemed to be in a hurry.

Arriving May 13 late afternoon in West Yellowstone. Spending 3 nights in same hotel. Best way to see the park? Have read suggestions to drive each loop, but when do we squeeze in Lamar Valley? Thanks.

Take the Grand Loop Road with the stopovers. Check out the accomodations inside the park. West Yellowstone Village was very touristic for me... Spend a night at West Thumb and/or Canyon Village. Much depends on the weather... More
