fountain square is a quite nice please surrounded by restaurants and bars. There are also some concerts on the square from time to time.

I believe that the German market that you are reference is 'Findlay Market' which is on the northwest side of downtown. I think that it is only open during daytime hours. It is better and livelier during warmer months
