Highly recommend! There is a lot of walking, and you can drive your car into parts of it to park and then walk. Allow yourself a couple of hours here, and don't forget the screen and your camera! So much to see!

I love visiting Civil War battlefields. This one was not a disappointment. However, the park closes at 5pm, and our travels didn't get us there until just prior to 4pm, so we had a hurried tour of the park. It is a very large park....More

My husband was more interested in touring the battlefield than I was but, I enjoyed it. There was much more to it that I imagined.

Did the driving tour and took about 1.5 hours. Needed to spend a lot more time (think 4 hours go to lunch and return for another 4 hours) when you tour this battle when you realize the actual battle took place over a 47 day...More

Very impressive. It is wonderful to be able to be in the actual locations of such a historic event. Well marked and enjoyable to drive through.

Be aware that everything, including the driving road, closes at 5 pm. Thus you need to be finished driving by then. The Visitor Center is very good with an excellent, 20-minute introductory film. The park brochure and Jr. Ranger program are also excellent.

We have been to several Civil War sites and enjoyed this one immensely. See them while they are still around. Visitor center a must, with a good short film about the battle and nice book store. Don't miss the Cairo, an ironclad vessel which was...More

Bring bikes, water bottles, mosquito repellent, a lunch, sunscreen, and hats! We visited the first week in August 2017. It was amazing. The entire park is VERY well organized, and the people in the visitor center are so knowledgeable. They really want you to get...More

Yes, guided tours are available, as are tours on CD. We spent about 4 hours, and didn't get to see everything (missed the Cairo!). If you go to the website for the Vicksburg National Military Park, you can find out about the... More

I agree with the previous answer but I would make sure that you watch the movie in the ranger station before you do the self guided tour. Reading up on the battles before hand would also help enhance your experience.
