Make sure you see the movie first. It gives a good explanation of the battle and will put the drive into perspective. We did not use a guided tour, but I heard someone coming back from one and they thought it was fantastic. There is...More

This is a must see for any Civil War enthusiast. Most importantly is the raised USS Cairo, the first ironclad sunk by a mine. She was raised in 1964 and refurbished.

A tour guide joined us in our car and took us for a 1-2 hour tour of the battlefield. We wouldn't have learned as much without him.

To me, it helped me understand the seige a lot better after going through it. It's hard for me to understand how one could throw people into battle in the terrane that they had to endure, such as the Thayer Approach, but I guess it...More

The video provided the most information and it was interesting to see the boat along with the many miles of trail and monuments.

A friend and I visited in November this year and reserved Gary Millett through the NPS. He was wonderful. For those who have seen Ken Burn's Civil War, it was like having Shelby Foote show you around. He will drive your car around the park,...More
