First of all, I am no history buff. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed a full day at this park. It is enjoyable and educational. The kids had fun too.

We visited during spring break with my 5 and 14 yr. old grandchildren and there was something for everyone to see and enjoy. Arrive with at least 1/2 tank of gas and begin at the visitor center for a short movie and cell phone tour...More

We loved this site but you must go on a guided tour. You can not go the this site and understand the battle so clearly than with a tour guide. These poor men and women on both sided, the history.

for a nominal fee, we drove round thiis very interesting piece of american history, well set out we valuable information placed around the site, as a foreigner i had very limited knowledge of the american civil war but found this site very interesting and insightful.

Yes, guided tours are available, as are tours on CD. We spent about 4 hours, and didn't get to see everything (missed the Cairo!). If you go to the website for the Vicksburg National Military Park, you can find out about the... More

I agree with the previous answer but I would make sure that you watch the movie in the ranger station before you do the self guided tour. Reading up on the battles before hand would also help enhance your experience.

no tours. you do a self drive tour of the bsttlefield. There are written and audio guides available
