Eternity Beach is a gorgeous beach located in East Oahu. It takes a moment to carefully navigate the stones down to the beach but once you reach the sand you will understand why this location is called Eternity Beach. It is a place where time doesn’t matter and if all we needed to sustain us in life was the sound of amazing waves, the turquoise color of the water, and the feel of sand between our toes one could forget about a fast paced life and spend an eternity on Eternity Beach. Life on Eternity Beach is simple: there are no vendors, a cave that you can walk into, beautiful places to take amazing photos, and the sound of waves crashing along the rocks. This beach was also the site where a scene From Here to Eternity was filmed and thus the name was derived. We spent about an hour at Eternity Beach unfortunately it was not long enough however, if you have some time on hand it is a great place to stop to put your feet in the water, take some beautiful photos, and enjoy a simple moment appreciating the beauty of nature.

We drove here the first day we had a car and thought it was beautiful! We climbed down to the beach and took a few pictures. On the last day we had a vehicle, we decided to go back and spend a longer amount of time. We are so glad we did! It is so beautiful! The second time we went, we climbed down and then climbed around. Might have gotten my phone wet to the point I had to get a new one once I got home (see picture attached), but it was so worth it. We swam for a little while, but did not go out too far as the waves are rough. Have swim shoes for sure! Most beautiful place either of us have ever been!

A former coworker commented to me that I have an "old soul" due to my fondness of old, classic movies. Most movies today will be dated however classic movies stay fresh. Two years ago I visited Hawaii for the first time. Prior to my trip I read the novel "From Here To Eternity". In fact when I was in the Big Island at the condominium I was staying I watched the movie version on TCM during Memorial Day Weekend. The most talked about scene from the movie was the love scene between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr at Halona Beach Cove. I wasn't sure when I would visit Oahu again but I bookmarked this beach on my bucket list.
This year I came back to Hawaii where I stayed at Oahu for 2 days. I visited to this beach on the day before Thanksgiving. That day was also my last day in Hawaii before I flew back to the mainland. When I arrived at Halona Beach Cove I was shocked that the beach was at the bottom of the lookout. I couldn't tell that from the movie. To get to the beach you have to walk on sandy, rocky slope. I didn't have difficulty walking down. However I couldn't imagine in 1953 how the cameramen would carry their equipment.
The beach isn't big. Even though the body of water isn't big as normal beaches the current is quite strong. This beach is an underrated place to swim due to the small beach, which means this area won't be overcrowded. From my perspective if you want a peaceful time to yourself the best time to go to this beach is early morning just after sunrise.
As my former coworker said, "I have an old soul." I'm not ashamed to admit it. Yet for a small beach why do old and young people drive to Halona Beach Cove? Mostly it's because of that famous movie of 1953 that won the Oscar for Best Picture. If I go back to Oahu I'll come to this beach again to swim and unwind. Hopefully there still be a young Deborah Kerr look-a-like waiting for me.

The weather wasn't the greatest when we popped by, but the view was still amazing. I highly recommend checking it out.

At the Halona Blowhole overlook, you can not only see the blowhole, but also the beach used in the move "From here to Eternity". You can go down onto the beach if you're up for a bit a steep hike. The blowhole is interesting, shooting water up into the air as the waves wash in, but to me, the real attraction is the ocean views. The combination of the volcanic rock, the waves crashing against them, the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean all make for a memorable scene. Definitely worth a stop.

I expected more from the spot made famous by Burt Lancaster & Deborah Kerr. Guess time has washed away some of the nostalgia & sand.
It is beautiful scenery though. Blowhole not that great.

If you are a fan of old movies you may want to stop for a quick look at this beach. Yes, this is where the famous beach scene was filmed for ‘From Here to Eternity’. You can see the beach and cove from the lookout where you will find parking (same spot for the blowhole). We also saw turtles swimming in the area.

We stopped here as part of the tour and we dipped ourselves just for a bit since water was rough, colours were great and awesome time to take pics with the family.

My friend and I chanced upon this beach by chance. Wow. We met a seal on the beach and were blown away by the beauty of this place. Park up at the car park for the blowhole and then walk down the rocks to the beach. Worth every minute.

This beach was made popular by the movie 'From Here to Eternity" and several other movies following, including "50 First Dates". It is a very picturesque setting. Patrons have to walk down some rock steps to get to the beach. Caution: the terrain is steep in parts and the rocks are uneven. You need to be very careful climbing down. There are warning signs to be careful. Rule of thumb is at least three points of contact as you climb up or down the rocks: two hands and one foot OR two feet and one hand as you maneuver your way down. It is an incredible sight on the beach as it is staring down from the rocks.

Can tourist go by themselves or do we have to book a tour?

For Eternity Beach, you can go by yourself. There’s a parking lot for the overlook. From the parking lot you can take a path down to Eternity Beach.

Is the water clear? Is the sand soft or dirty? Is this beach crowded with tourists? Where do you park If you wanted to climb down?
Written 12 March 2019
The surf is pretty rough , so I wouldn't recommend swimming in the area.....but the water is blue and beautiful, like much of the coastline. Not many people hike down to the beach, so it's usually not crowded at all. There's a parking lot nearby that is easily accessible.
