We were on our way to Diamond Head and at a "Y" in the road where you bear left, when I noticed what looked like a new War Memorial so I stopped. As a Navy veteran I soon noticed that this is a Memorial to the 19 Navy SEALs and Army Night Stalkers (160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment) lost in an operation in Afghanistan that has been best described in the book "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell, U.S. Navy SEAL and the movie with the same title. In addition this is a wonderful park for a picnic. On your way to Diamond Head or on your way back to Honolulu stop and honor the sacrifice that is being made daily by members of our volunteer armed forces. If you do not know about this operation, the plaques on the monument will explain the entire story.
