We frequent the Mai Tai bar every year when we come to Hawaii. The atmosphere is fabulous, the drinks and food are amazing. However; the main reason we keep coming back to the Mai Tai bar is the bartenders. They are all very personal and excellent at taking care of their customers. Kui is the most amazing bartender we have ever met. He is always attentive, entertaining and has a huge clientele of locals and tourists who support the Mai Tai bar because of him.

We had a short (15 minute) wait for a table for 4 around 6pm. Nice table not quite at the front but close enough for a beach/ocean view. It is all about the location and view. Service was good and quite fast. 2 Mai Tai and 2 beers came to $86 with tip - not cheap but you pay for the view and live music.
Worth the wait and price.

Great location right on the beach. Excellent service, great selection of cocktails and although the food options are limited, the kitchen does deliver quality. Mahalo!

We enjoyed some wonderful cocktails, an amazing view and a Hawaiian show at the Mai Tai Bar. So relaxing sipping on cocktails, listening to the waves and we were lucky that there was a Hawaiian dance next door.
We were actually there in May of 2018 but that is no longer a selection.

The Mai Tai bar is definitely the place to hang if you want to watch the beach activity while eating. I had the $27 thai beef salad for dinner and it had a very unique taste. It was delicious. I thought perhaps they marinated the steak in tarragon and vinegar or something because it was savory and spicy. But they used mint, cilantro, basil and a thai vinaigrette. I didn’t ask about the ingredients of the vinaigrette. There was live music at dinner, and I was near the musician but it wasn’t too loud, which is good. It was pleasant. The Royal Hawaiian $20 mai tai was delicious but very strong. I felt drunk after 4 sips. (But I don’t drink. Just wanted to try it!). It was much more crowded on Friday night than it was for Saturday lunch. The truffle fries are delicious. They are served with a black pepper garlic aioli, and the fries have caramelized shallots, chives, parsley and parmesan cheese on them. I had the mahi sandwich but did not think it was worth $29. It had some guacamole, a little cole slaw ( not much) and fried shallots, but the shallots were dried, like the kind in a bottle you get at the grocery store. But all in all the venu is very convenient, and there isn’t anywhere else in the hotel to have lunch.

This is a beautiful spot to stop for a drink or two. Right on the beach so you can take in views of Diamond Head and Waikiki beach.
Beware if you are sitting along the railing AND you have food. The pigeons are ruthless! We saw them overtake a table more than once and run people off for the french fries. Tables back a row off the railing were fine, as were other tables on the railing only with drinks. Waitstaff did their best to combat the issue as well, so props to them for trying to handle a busy bar, restaurant, and a bird gang! It does create quite a spectacle.

I finally got back to this wonderful spot almost two years to the day after my last visit. Covid had changed the world in my absence, and new protocols were in place here now. Masks, proof of vaccine or negative test, registration for contact tracing. But it was all good.
I sat at the bar and enjoyed my favorite Vick's 44 Mai Tai and the signature (and decadent) truffle fries. It was a bittersweet return, I had a lump in my throat for a few minutes.
I also remembered my Aunt and Uncle and their many visits here in the years leading up to statehood and just after. They inspired me to visit, and it's always o e of my first stops when I visit.

Lovely dining experience, seated at a table beachfront. Busy place, limited menu, ordered drinks before dinner and boy, they pack a punch! Not watered down at all even with ice. Great service. We would recommend and THANK YOU for checking Covid cards + photo ID. This was handled by a lovely staff member prior to being seated, worked very well. The local musician played and sang contemporary music, all well done. Wished there was a bit larger selection on the menu but in these Covid times, we understand.

This place is the worst. It smells and the waiters are too lazy. You are better off going to some other place like HWAK or some other bar your dollars are valued!!

This is a fun must-see along Waikiki Beach at the Royal Hawaiian. My husband and I stayed at the Moana Surfrider and enjoyed popping over to Mai Thai Bar for a drink and change of scenery. We were both pleased with the pours we received for our drinks. There is live music in the evenings which adds to the fun atmosphere. Service was a little slow while we were there, but we were still able to snag a drink and close out before heading on to our dinner reservation. I could tell staff were working hard to keep up with the volume of guests that evening.

We never saw any ad in a menu or on the table mentioning a happy hour.

I clicked on the website and it said the Mai Tai Bar is temporarily closed!? But some of the reviews are current... Is it really closed or is the website not up to date? I’m hoping to come and enjoy a Mai Tai for my birthday in early March 2019...

It was open as recently as October 2, 2018. There has been a strike among some Waikiki hotel workers this past month so maybe it’s related to that? Nothing stays closed in Waikiki for long, though, so I’m sure you’ll be sipping happily in March. 😊

Hi, I had the short rib French dip sandwich and it was very good. My hubby had a burger, he also said it was good. Be aware, it is pricey, and the service was slow, but we enjoyed it none the less.
