I sort of stumbled on this state park when scanning a map....I know I'm old and love paper maps.....of Honolulu. It seemed not too far from the Punch Bowl, but with the winding streets it takes a few minutes to arrive at the top. There are only about a dozen parking spots at the very top, but mid-day we had the place almost to ourselves. What amazing views of the entire city!

It was peaceful and so nice to drive up there and look down to the whole city on a perfect day. We will go back again next week with our family while all of us are here in Honolulu

Best view of Honolulu! Great picture spot in the day and even busier at night. True a “hidden gem”. We stumbled on it when attending the Nutridge Estate luau. Highly recommend it. Better view than from top of Diamond Head and you don’t have to hike! And it is FREE.

I didn't have a rental car so I took the public bus to the closest stop near the park. Getting an Uber was almost impossible in that area. The hassle of getting there was well worth it in the end. The view and the surrounding area is beautiful and must be seen in person.

Awesome off the grid stop.
We were on our way to turtle island and a local showing some family around told us to stop here. So glad we did, the views are amazing!
There were some local younger people there just hanging out and they told us the sunset is absolutely amazing there. With the possibility of left not sure sticking around at dusk is a great idea Unfortunately. Luckily we didn’t have any issues.
Another great off the grid stop, Laie Point. It’s in a residential area so parking is limited. But beautiful spot.

Easy drive and park. Great views of most of the Oahu shore including Waikiki and Downtown Oahu. This should be a must see.

Puu Ualakaa is a beautiful State Park reached via the equally beautiful Tantalus Drive. The entrance dive is beautifully lined with eucalyptus trees on either side of the road. A major attraction in the park is the scenic lookout which provides awesome views of Honolulu including Diamond Head and the Punchbowl. There are several nice hiking trails through the rainforests to enjoy as long as one prepared with water and insect repellant.

In sum, even if you do not want to drive the full route of Tantalus scenic drive, at least drive up to and visit Puu Ualakaa State Park for grand views of Honolulu.

It was a fun drive up. We stopped to catch the views of Honolulu a couple times and the crazy hillside housing. Once we got to the top, we had really amazing view of Honolulu area. The parking lot was full but someone left so we didn't wait long. One word of warning - a distressed couple was at the top because they left their vehicle unguarded and someone smashed the window to their vehicle. The lookout is no more than 30 yards away! Brave thieves. So watch your stuff and leave somebody at the car to guard. Looks like the City could post security cameras or patrol the area more frequently. Probably ruined their vacation and made me a little edgy.

Nice view. Our car window was broken and items stolen. We were there only a few minutes. Honolulu PD officer says it happens on a daily basis. There are signs that video cameras are there for security. Guess what , they aren’t really there, whoever is breaking into cars STOLE the cameras!!

Be very careful. Happened in 10 minutes while away from our car.

This is a narrow, winding road that takes you up to the top of the hill for fantastic views of diamond head, ocean, skyline! Go out to the eva of the walkway and you can look 180 degrees of gorgeousness !! It is an adventure getting up to the top but it is worth it for the views!!
