Great safe place to relax and swim that wasn't crowded.
Rental of equipment was on the expensive side.

The water is colder than the pool and ocean

The beach and pools are right there.

Why would you spend time here?? It looks lovely but don’t get why you would come here

Full of locals as well

The Lagoon was a short walk from the Grand Waikikian. There is generally plenty of room on the beach. The sand is quite clean, and does not have pebbles or coral or shell bits. The water temperature is cooler than the ocean. Swimming is easier than in crowded pool or ocean currents. The Lagoon changes dramatically in size, shrinking and expanding, during the day. The Lagoon rental booth has aqua bikes to rent for a trip around the
Lagoon- which is fun for an hour! The fellows at the Lagoon rental booth are just plain rude to customers, who are Hilton guests, by the way.

Such a pretty lagoon just off of the beach. Lots of birds wading along the shore and tons of fish in the water. A pretty pathway winds around the water and by the ocean.

It is true that the lagoon is about 10 degrees cooler than the adjacent ocean, and the sand is quite coarse. Your feet will get a nice exfoliation without beach shoes on! Free spa service :). My children and I enjoyed the protected quality of the lagoon, and If you are down in the evening, you can see and hear the starlight luau going on nearby on the lawn.
To hire any of the boards or non-motorized equipment, be prepared to shell out a LOT of money. A water bike is $70/hr.

This was my wife’s favorite relaxing place from our last trip, so we stayed nearby (Hilton Hawaiian Village) to ensure we were close enough for multiple visits.
The lagoon is man made and maintained by HHV, partially drained and cleaned every day and very clean. There are small fish that come by pretty close allowing for some very basic snorkeling. Water was clear and shallow at the edges making it a perfect and safe place for small lids and their worried parents.
You can rent beach chairs, paddle boards, and water bikes (although not cheaply) which add to the opportunities. Only feet from the beach and Pacific Ocean, families can do a little of both without packing up and moving.
There is a shrimp truck regularly in the adjacent parking lot and a nearby Dairy Queen/Orange Julius store is a big plus. Takeout adult beverages available a few minutes away at Tropicals too.
Great photo ops too with palm trees framing Diamond Head and Waikiki on the southeast side of the lagoon.

This man-made lake, located by to the Hilton hotel, is a great place to relax. If you have children is ideal to let play in the water. There are plenty of activities to enjoy for all ages. You can even have a picnic in the grass area close by.

This is a lagoon, i.e. an area of shallow water separated from the ocean by sand. Specifically, this one is an artificially made lagoon, run by the Hilton, but open to the public. There’s a parking lot adjacent to the lagoon, but since we were staying at the Illikai Hotel it was just a short walk from the hotel. The waters are calm and the location was perfect for our young kids (ages 3 & 5) to play without fear of them getting thrashed by waves. They had a lot of fun playing in the water and chasing after the fish that live in the lagoon. Of course, where there’s fish, there’s waste, but I’m told the water goes through a filtration system operated by the hotel. The water is a little cold, but the Hawaiian sun warms you up in no time. Speaking of the sun, there’s not much shade at the lagoon aside from the surrounding trees at the edges, so bring sunscreen or rent an umbrella. The sand around the lagoon is hard, almost rocky, so I’d also recommend bringing water shoes or sandals. You can rent water bikes, paddle boards, and beach loungers from the nearby vendors. You can also walk further down the boardwalk to reach the beach, other hotels, more shops and restaurants. Overall, it's a great place to play and lounge if you’re staying at one of the nearby hotels. Just remember to rinse yourself off if you go into the waters here.

Calm waters mean even little kids can master SUP balance and shallow waters make learning from your errors a breeze.
Board rentals and lessons both available.
