    Incredible views!
I booked a time slot for 6-8 am and arrived shortly after 6 to get parking. The hike was perfect as the sun was just starting to rise making it not too hot. The views from the top were absolutely incredible and the hike really wasn't too strenuous. It had rained, so some spots of the trail had standing water or were muddy and thus slippery, but it wasn't too bad. Those steps to the peak were no joke though! Definitely book ahead of time so you get the entry time you want!

You should do this hike during your visit!
It’s easy to get swept up in shopping, the beach, dining at nice restaurants, etc. while visiting Honolulu. Don’t let an unbelievable hike leading to a fantastic view of the city pass you by, though. Diamond Head crater is within walking distance of downtown (albeit a lengthy walk at about 3 miles). I wanted a day of activity, though, and decided to walk there from a downtown hotel — thinking that I would either Uber or bus it on the return trip. The hike up to the peak takes approximately 45 minutes (it’s quicker on the way down - probably 30 minutes). If you brought hiking shoe/boots, I’d recommend wearing them as there are definitely uneven parts to the path. The view from the top is spectacular. Definitely worth a visit during your stay here.

    Diamond Head Hiking Experience
This was my first hiking experience. Please wear sunscreen, bring water, sunglasses and wear good sneakers. The trail is a mix of stairs, rough terrain a few inclines/hills and there is a short tunnel/cave you have to go through. At times the path is narrow so be mindful of two way traffic. There are pit stops along the way that allow for rest and beautiful pics. Once you make it to the top the views are breathtaking.

    Climbing Diamond Head Crater Adventure
Our three families decided to climb Diamond Head Crater. We took Ubers to get there. The climb is not for the faint of heart. The pathways are partially slick lava flows that are uneven and treacherous. There are lots of switchbacks for easier climbing. At the top, you can take the switchbacks and still get to the summit. The more challenging way is to climb 99 steps to the summit. We chose the switchbacks.

    Breathtaking! Worth it!!
Hubby, our 5-year-old and I hiked up Diamond Head during our vacation and it was totally worth it. Had booked the 8 AM slot as read all the recommendations about heading out early to avoid the unforgiving sun and we were glad we did. I was so sure our toddler would give up and we would just have to call it a day but perseverance and a slow pace meant we accomplished our goal. So many passerbys were proud of him and we were beaming with pride once we hit the summit. Truly beautiful photo ops on the way up and down. Pack your sun hats, water bottles (there’s a refill station by the washrooms) and towel (thank goodness for baby wipes!), wear sunscreen, something breathable and good walking shoes (we didn’t use hiking shoes and were fine) and enjoy!

    Great views from the top
Diamond Head is worth it for the amazing views. But it's a hike!!!! Make sure you have good walking shoes on, keep a bottle of water and are in good shape to make the climb. It takes about 30 minutes to hike up the mountain and it is unpaved, uneven, and rocky. There are no restrooms on top or any water fountains along the way up. We did see parents with kids making this hike as well. The hike up is worth the views Once you're on top. Beautiful panoramic views of Honolulu. You need reservations go get into the park and you need to pay for parking. You can book online. Again, good walking shoes and stay hydrated...!!!!

    Awesome Views Of Paradise
Diamond Head is a natural beauty located at the far right of Waikiki Beach in the paradise that is Hawaii. Diamond head is the perfect location for introducing people to hiking and whilst a challenge due to the heat, the actual incline is not an issue. At the summit, there is stunning views of the Honolulu sea front and makes the long journey to Hawaii worthwhile. I am aware that people attempt to reach the summit prior to sunset and it must be a stunning sight to see. It is important to note that since Covid, you are require to book a spot rather than just turn up. There is a small charge to visit, but it is certainly worth it. I also had the pleasure of running around Diamond Head on a number of occasions and it was an excellent run.

    Diamond Head
It’s a good hike. We actually walked from Waikiki Beach area and back which made the hike 9 miles. The actual hike is really short but a lot of stairs. Great views at the top but a swarm of bugs also hang out at the top. $5 to get in so make sure you pay before you enter and reserve a time. There are a lot of people on this trail.

Gorgeous view of Honolulu and Oahu coast. Challenging hike to summit for experienced climbers. Well worth the effort.

Walk starts out easy on a concrete path but soon turns into uneven natural path. There are narrow places, a lot of stairs and the incline is enough to know your alive. But, once you make it to the top the views are amazing and the breeze is welcome. Please don't attempt this walk if you aren't reasonably fit or on walking aids. There are signs before you start warning that it's a hard walk. Oh, and leave your little kids behind unless you can carry them as it's not fair to make their little legs walk that far

Great experience. Online reservations required for park entry but are super easy to get on the website in advance of the visit.

From Waikiki east t I get to base or trek either by walking (about 45-50min), cab, rental car (need to reserve parking) or Green Trolley which is a great ride and what we did.

Hike is well posted and takes about 40min (perhaps 50 min if you go when crowds are building) to get to the top. Would advise you go as easily as possible to maximise experience with smaller crowds and before it gets to hot.

I did the hike with an 11 year old and 8yr old and they coped easily. Saw some younger kids as well but would say would be tough for kids 5 and under.

Ground on way up can be a bit tricky as surface is not even but very manageable and would just make sure you wear joggers or don’t try and do in flip flops.

Great view from the top. Only downside is the “peak” is small and can get crowded especially with all the posers needing to take 1000 different photos in different poses for Instagram - generally inconsiderate, take a quick snap and let others also get on with the day.

The hike was pretty steep. The stairs hard on your knees. But the views were spectacular.
Take plenty of water.
