This place is nestled in between two magnificent pieces of property - one with a house, the other with a house being built on the site. Getting down to the caves you have to traverse a very steep path that can be treacherous if it has gotten wet. Not for the faint of heart as there is not really a railing to hang onto the entire way but rather a chain link fence and then a chain that dangles. Wear good sturdy shoes and perhaps take a walking stick.

We went here on the suggestion of a local we met. Its kind of hard to find the trail down to the ocean, but its there between houses. There is no beach here, just waves crashing against the rocky shore with often spectacular results. The trail is a little tricky, but not difficult to manage. It does seem like you could fall and get hurt here, so be careful.

The view is incredible. Incredible colors and visual images.

Follow Waze to the site. If you are not fit or not wearing proper shoes, head home. You will park in an exclusive residential neighborhood. Look for the marker between houses - I think it was 119A.

I am risk averse but did the decent. You will look down a 4-6 foot wide path that looks like a 45 degree angle down. Your first thought will be “I am in the wrong place this is impossible.” Hang onto the fence, chains and vegetation as you head down this slippery and dangerous decent. It is a 3 - 5 minute decent to the rocks that overlook the sea. Be careful as people have died by falling into the sea. The view is unbelievable. Climbing up, using the chains and fence along the path was easier than going down.

Difficult hike to get down to the rocky area to see the caves and rocks. If in good shape - worth the experience.

Having lived on Oahu for 12 years this was my first time visiting the "Spitting Cave" overlook. Mainly because it always sounded like a dangerous place. My son had been here before & invited me to go visit it with him. We parked on the street and walked down the trail (Wear good footwear!) to the large smooth rocks that overlook the cave. The smooth weathered rocks were interesting. A woman was preparing to jump off the rocks into the water in front of the spitting cave. Her friend was using a drone to capture her jump. I was concerned for the woman's safety! It was windy and we only stayed a short time. I have seen it and have no desire to return. Now when I hear of someone getting injured or killed at this site I will know why.

The previous reviews are accurate - wear good shoes, you may or may not see the "spitting" and the view is beautiful. But I'm hesitant to review it because its only accessible through a blue access trail in a neighborhood and clearly not all the travelers before us had the malama aina (protect the land and it will protect you) spirit.

My wife and I took a less orthodox way to see this site: we parked on a neighborhood street just east of the China Walls, and then we hiked south on the cliffs until we finally found the Spitting Caves--there were some slippery cliffs, and the beating waters made some parts more treacherous. We saw no one on our way down to the caves (which had its own beautiful sites), though there were a couple other people there when we finally found the spot, and it was worth the trip: about every 5-10 minutes, the caves take in more water than they contain, and the caves "spit" the water back out in an aggressive spray that can reach up to hit all the onlookers. It's a marvelous site worth the risk of getting to, though we found out that another couple who came down to the spot came from an easier way, which we never learned. If you do travel south from the China Walls, beware of rusty nails in the ground!

The blue water and the lava formations were awesome to see. They were a little rough to walk on and you should be very careful. However the view was amazing.

a hidden gem! our Uber driver said this is a "locals" thing and it's not well known to tourists, and it's really off the beaten path. The entrance is in a neighborhood so be mindful of parking to not block driveways. The walk down to the caves if very slick so wear good shoes like Tevas, Chacos, something with good grip and a strap (no flip flops). The caves are very slick but totally worth it and beautiful. Close to Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach and the blowholes so definitely pair this trip with one of those sites to make the most out of your trip to this area.
