Further along Kalanianaole Highway is the Makapuu Lighthouse hiking trail. This easy route with its moderate incline to the 647-ft. summit is a popular spot during whale season between December and April. This is a definite photo opportunity even when humpbacks aren’t spouting offshore. If you’re really ambitious, tackle a pre-sunrise hike to the top so you can grab a glorious photo of the sunrise.

Did this hike on a whim in the afternoon. It was beautiful - so glad I took the opportunity. The path is paved & wide most of the way. If you want to go the base of the lighthouse you will take a dirt path...More

This is a beautiful hike on a paved, wide walkway. The incline is gradual. Take plenty of water and wear sun protection as there is no shade! The view is breathtaking.

Be aware when your driving to this site. The sign say that it's a lookout point. The walk is on flat asphalt but the incline will be easier in the cool morning weather. Remember to bring your water and snacks because there is No vendors...More

We did this hike around 8am on a Wednesday morning and it was fantastic! The hike itself was moderately easy with plenty of views the entire way up. It wasn't too crowded at all. One of the highlights of our trip to Oahu!

A wide, paved trail that meanders up along the east side of the island with amazing views of the ocean and country. This is a trail that could easily accommodate strollers, but there is a significant incline, with several interesting opportunities to go off the...More

Another nice trail with spectacular views during and at the top. Trail is paved so easy for trollers but it's pretty much all incline walking so be ready to sweat. We would hike it again.

This was a nice hiking trail. The views are breathtaking each step of the way.The only downfall is we expected a big lighthouse but it was a miniature lighthouse. This trail is definitely worth the experience and workout!

Nice paved trail but it's still difficult! It gets hot along the climb so be sure to bring water and SPF!

Yes, the trail from the parking lot to the light house viewing is paved; its uphill and not too steep and strollers should be quite possible.

All free, but parking is tight because of the popularity of the trail with locals and tourists. Go early...best time of the day.
