Even though there are hotels along the beach, the beach is open to the public. It is clean and the ocean is wonderful. Beware of coral and lava rocks which can be hard on the feet. Water shoes do the trick.

Not a pretty beach. Sand littered with trash, cigarette butts, etc. Narrow strip of land surrounded by high rise hotels, so you get all the traffic noise. Beach always crowded. Smell of marijuana everywhere. Drive 20 minutes outside of town to quieter beaches.

Warning: found syringe needle on the north end of the beach where kids' popular swimming section is.... beautiful beach but unfortunately like other places, over run by homeless at the north end... please be careful...

We love to travel during the shoulder season and the crowds when we were in Waikiki in Oct are a true testament as to why. We practically had the beach to ourself most days. We rented 2 beach chairs and an umbrella for one of the days and with the discount from our nearby hotel it was only $25 for the whole day. Great deal and the perfect spot to unwind.

The Hawaiian mecca that started it all - Waikiki Beach, and the place I first learned how to surf on a wooden longboard (not a typo) more that 40 years ago. When I came to the islands for the first time 40 years ago, this beach was wide open and there were the (then) BIG hotels lining the beach. I came back again 15 years ago when we got married, and WOW, how things had changed... more and bigger hotels, more shops, and - yes, more people. Now - 40 years from my first visit, the hotels and shops have taken up every inch of real estate - up, down and sideways. It's a VERY commercial and touristy area, with little resembling the old days - surfboards are way shorter and made of foam and fiberglass, there are hawkers, homeless, and pan handlers at every turn, and the crowds of people are unbelievable.
But despite all the changes / progress, one thing still remains... the warm and welcoming nature of the locals, and the ability to lay a blanket in the sand, walk out into the water, and just let the waves wash it all away.
Welcome home to the islands... Aloha!

The water is beautiful and when we were there in May 2022 it was not very crowded. You can rent umbrellas and chairs if you wish and food options are also available.

We stayed in a hotel right along Waikiki Beach. The beach was one of the most beautiful we have visited. Early in the morning, as the sun rises above Diamond Head Mountain, it was and always is a majestic sight to behold.

I could not make it to Hawaii again without checking out Waikiki Beach, so I had to visit it. It is immensely crowded, and that is not really what I am looking for. But to be fair, the beach itself is nice and in the heart of the tourist corridor. I would be surprised if any locals visited here, for it has all the challenges that keep residents away (crowds, parking, etc.).

So excited to come to Waikiki beach and visit this iconic place. We walked the entire beach route starting from Mona Surfer to the harbour and back again, with Diamond Head Mountain as the backdrop along the beach. It’s crowded in late April with vibrant energy. Finally my dream came true to see this place that has appeared in so many magazines. Exhilarating!

We are staying in the Waikiki area at an AirBnB, about 0.5 mile walk from the beach. Should we bring our own chairs or are their places on the beach we could rent? Also, we’ll have a rental car - what are some recommendations on things (places, beaches, restaurants, ext) for a family of four to explore? Our kiddos 4 & 6 years old. TIA!

I was wondering how is the weather in Waikiki so far. Has it been sunny or cloudy? I will be leaving in two days for one week vacation down there in Waikiki Honolulu Hawaii and I was just wondering how the weather has been if it has been sunny or cloudy. I was hoping for sunny weather so I can get a tan. My first vacation ever so I really want to relax and enjoy it. Please let me know thank you.

The weather was nice when we were there in late January. You can look up weather predictions 10 days in advance online. That is what I did to know what to pack. Enjoy!

I planned on going to Honolulu Waikiki Hawaii from march 6 to march 12. I have been keeping an eye on the weather over there and noticed it says it will be cloudy no sun so far for march 6 and 7. And high of 79. Will it still be hot as nd be and beautiful to go swimming at the beach. Plus can you still get a tan and sunburn.

yes to both! the uv index is high as your closer to the equator and the saltwater drying on your skin also speeds up the burn or tanning process!

Not free to park. Easy to get around with UBER. We stayed at the Hilton in Waikiki Beach and the city was a short walk away with lots of restaurants. Parking at hotels not sure how much it is to park but someone we met at the restaurant said it was expensive. Have fun, it is a great city.
