We decided to hike the trail at around 9 am, which was a good idea, so we avoided the burning sun at midday. I am not the fittest and not the best hiker, but I made it to the top. The steps are partly quite...More

We are a young Asian couple who climbed at around 3pm, there is no tree cover and it took us 3liters of water to get up and come down, if you have short legs this can be a challenging trail. The view is amazing and...More

It is an interesting place to visit if you are a nature lover, otherwise skip it. We are older folks and trail walking is not one of our frequent activities.

Having read everyone else's comments on different websites, I knew this trail was going to be a tough one. I got to the parking lot at 0530 and it was still dark.. The closest spot to park is easy to find as there is only...More

The view at the top is worth the effort! It's 1048 steps and I found the trip up harder then down N.B. be careful coming back down as you build momentum and much easier to course yourself injury. It took 50min ups and 30min down......More

One of my favorite parts of the trip. I hike at home, so you want to be in shape somewhat for this climb. There are over 1000 railroad ties to the top. Go early, when it is not as hot out. Beautiful views await you,...More

This is a very difficult hike. Bring plenty of water - don't share with your buddy because it won't be enough. Also wear sneakers or boots because the trails is a very steep set of rail road tracks and you could tear up your feet...More

This trail is definitely more difficult than Diamondhead. If you are not used to hiking with a lot of elevations or doing stairs, be warned...it will take you over 1 hour and there may be points when you feel a bit scared. Stay to the...More

Parking is easy and it's easy to find the trail, just follow the signs. We were there in the afternoon and only ran into about 10 people, so not crowded at all. It's a very steep climb on railroad ties and dirt. The trail is...More

Yes. I did it on my running shoes and I saw people going with flipflops (which I don't recommend). But I guess converse sneakers are fine. Most important thing is to go really early when it is not warm and bring enough water.

Yeah for sure, I did it in sneakers too. Some people go jogging on the trail, hiking boots are definitely not necessary.

There will be buses, but I do recommend renting a car! They have free parking over there by the entrance of Koko Head Trail. If you do get a public bus, the bus fare is $2.50 per head, but they'll give you this ticket thing... More
