I've been here a few times over the years and have always enjoyed it. It's relatively small but has a great collection, and the display has evolved to enhance the visitor experience. While I think the admission price is very fair, free admission is offered a couple of times per month -- check their website to confirm. It's also right... More

I love museums, but, they get tiring. This museum is good for several enjoyable visits. There are a number of well put together rooms and wonderful international exhibits. The collections are outstanding. There are places to sit, quiet court yards, a cafe. It is near bus, and parking is in a lot across the street (and by an annex this... More

This was my fourth visit to the HMA (art gallery) in as many times that I have been to Honolulu. Whilst the exhibitions are refreshed from time to time, some items remain constants. I first make my way to the European/Western galleries where I can find works by de Chirico & Monet, Alice Neel and Lousie Nevelson that cannot be... More

We loved the multiple rooms, quality of the displays and the variety of art and materials displayed. The museum is sparing in emphasizing an area, island or style. The collection is large and varied. Worth a visit.

This is a gem of a museum. Though it may be small in comparison to a lot of other state capitals' art institutions, it has a multitude of incredible and most impressive collections. There is a cafe and gift shop, both very nice.

I did not expect to find such a gem in downtown Honolulu. It is a bit out of the way from Waikiki but can be easily reached by cab or rental car. Spend a couple of hours there. Learning some of the local character and culture is fascinating.

It may seem odd to interrupt sea and surf for a cultural excursion but you won't regret it. This beautiful museum has it all. Its Asian collection is outstanding as are its contemporary offerings. Its European and American paintings are all excellent selections. The museum itself is built around attractive courtyards. My one regret is not signing up in time... More

This is one of my favorite places to visit when I am in Honolulu. Permanent and temporary exhibits always have something of interest. Plus the art school (associated) across the street also has changing exhibits. We usually dine at the museum cafe while making a day of it. We did not tour the Doris Duke house on this trip but...
