I enjoyed HoMA and appreciated the Highlights tour. I am so pleased I booked and had the opportunity to go on the Shangri-la tour. It was well organised and the 2 hours flew by. Well worth seeing in my opinion.

This medium sized museum has a broad collection of fine art, particularly Asian art. Enjoyed the impressive sculptures of Guanyin and Ganesha, the masks of Java and the work of many well-known artists like Mary Cassatt, Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Picasso …
It is a worthwhile museum to visit.

This museum was very cool in the way it was organized, with the courtyards and the different galleries. It was a surprise that there were so many cool things to look at. With that said, the best part of visiting is the add-on ticket to visit Shangri-La, Doris Duke's estate. Advance tickets for Shangri-La are required and sell out quickly during busy times.

We spent a fun Friday evening in downtown Honolulu, as we utilized the bus service from our hotel. Our initial stop was at a downtown brewery, and then we migrated to this lovely art museum before a cocktail night at Bar Leather Apron. The artwork provided a nice respite between our libations, and it made us wishing that we had more time. However, it was pertinent to have reservations for our meals.

The museum provided lockers for our belongings, and the exhibits offered a valuable insight into the history of indigenous cultures in relation to Hawaii.

If you’ve been to the museums in Paris, Boston, Washington etc. this is not as good as they are. HOWEVER, Hawaiians deserve to have a decent art museum which this is. We saw great collections of Chinese artifacts as well as a smattering of impressionist, modern, and classical. Low key vibe with several lovely courtyards. A good place to take someone who doesn’t yet appreciate art.

We really wanted to visit Shangri-La so we came to the museum to get on the waitlist. As it turned out, we didn't make Shangri-La but I'm so glad we visited the museum. It's a nice, compact museum with a great selection of art from around the world. There were paintings by lots of artists you'd recognize - Picasso, Matisse, Georgia O'Keefe - as well as nice pieces representing different countries and genres. I especially liked the Hawaiian artists exhibit.

Visiting this museum really gives you the sense of what an International city Honolulu is and Hawaii's long history and cultural significance.

And as a bonus, the cafe was wonderful.

HOMA was easy to find and get through, a beautiful collection of art and artifacts from over the world. GREAT gift shop with creations by local artists. Book a month in advance to see the Shangri La museum, a private home dedicated to islamic art, blew me away how beautiful and special it was, the home and the contents of treasures from all over the world

It's always a beautiful place to visit and relax. The membership is affordable and worth it if you live on-island. There are a lot of cool, quiet places to take in the art and scenery. I haven't eaten at the restaurant but there's a nice little coffee bar that not only makes coffee drinks but they offer freshly made Italian sodas and tea drinks too.

This is a modest sized museum consistent with what one would expect for a city the size of Honolulu, with a wide range of exhibits. The big attraction, by far, is taking the trip out to the Shangra-la/Duke Mansion, which is worth the price of admission to the Museum istelf. Frankly, for the price of admission, I don't know that I'd go to the museum on its own, but in combination with the Duke mansion, it's a winner.
