The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

This was a really good place to visit, beautifully kept, perfectly laid out grounds, fantastic rows of trees lining the avenues. We walked around the memorials for a good, long while, reading the memorial plaques, so many people spanning the decades, serving in different campaigns, it was very interesting. At the top of the steps is information and maps of... More

Beautiful cemetery built to commemorate the war dead of the World War and others. Very calm with a statue of a goddess overlooking the graves.

This cemetery is definitely worth your time. It is very beautiful place for those who gave their lives in WWII. If you care about history go visit this place and pay the respects. I do recommend this place. Also their is very nice view of Honolulu from the top.

Is it possible for a cemetery to be beautiful? Be sure to walk through the top of the memorial and follow the battles of WWII. Great views of Honolulu.

This beautiful cemetery is a must see when you're on Oahu. I can't really come up with the right words to say about this place, but if you care about the history of this country, go see it, it'll be worth the time. Also, the view of downtown Honolulu is simply stunning.

The Punchbowl is included on the route of different tours, although buses are not permitted to stop and disembark visitors. The reason is that the headstones, unlike Commonwealth war graves, are set into the grass and visitors could unwittingly step on them without realising what they are doing. If you want to take photographs your driver will usually stop, open... More

What an awesome place! Very humbling, beautiful. Unfortunately the only way to see the whole cemetery & information on the wars is to have a car, the tour buses are not aloud to let you out.

Words cannot explain the feeling you get here! Almost 29,000 names of those missing who were never recovered during the Pacific wars. A must! (Also called Punchbowl Cemetery)
