Its animal population includes more than 64 reptile, 38 mammal and 160 bird species. The 42-acre facility is organized into three tropical ecological zones: Tropical Rainforests, Pacific Islands and the African Savanna. Several of the cages we saw nothing weather they were empty or hiding. There is a couple elephants, zebra, giraffes, and smaller animals. Kids would love it.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 October 2023

There are a range of excellent animals to see in spacious enclosures, the weather is also ideal for the animals located in this area. There are a range of food and drink outlets for individuals to visit & an excellent gift shop. There a couple of play areas for children which are also good fun to use. I would say the number and range of animals is not as good as it was 10years ago (With a few empty enclosures), but the rhinos are by far the best attractions to visit. The staff are all friendly and always happy to talk. A good day out to visit.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 October 2023
- Dexter HToronto, Canada156 contributionsBEAUTIFUL ZOOIt took us almost 3 hours to walk the whole zoo. There was a lot to see although many of the enclosures looked empty as the animals were hiding from the sun. You will definitely see elephants, giraffes, monkeys, fishes and birds. The stroll through the park is enjoyable on its own as you will see lots of flowering shrubs and trees. There are lots of washrooms along the way but not all of the food and beverage stalls were open so make sure to get water when you get in or bring your own.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 October 2023
- Melanie KCastro Valley, California188 contributionsFamily funThis zoo is beautiful, spacious and a great way to spend half of your day. I wish we’d have planned better due to the size of the zoo. We stayed about 2 1/2 hours but since they let you in and out, we could have gone out for lunch and came back. Beautiful areas to picnic on the grass, peacocks, chickens and baby chicks running about and a great playground that my 6 year old enjoyed while my teens took selfies with the wandering peacocks. All of the animals look healthy and well cared for. Wish some of the exhibits had more windows. Due to the great habitat environments, a lot of the animals were hiding or just not in great view. Great gift shop and plenty of eats nearby. Would definitely recommend.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 October 2023
- UK2USA1981San Tan Valley, Arizona51 contributionsGreat Zoo with a Good Selection of AnimalsWe spent about 2 hours at the zoo one morning. It was nice because the zoo is not too big and it is easy to see the awesome animals in a short time. Shade from trees was welcome when walking around. We thought that there was a good selection of animals and they were visible too. The monkeys put on a special show for us - worth going just for that! We decided to become zoo members as it was just a few dollars more than 2 adult tickets. A year of free entry. All-in-all, a great zoo that is worth a visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 November 2023

The animals are well taken care of and very loved at the Zoo. N I love the information that is shared about each animal.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 November 2023
- plaidbagelWalla Walla, Washington1,006 contributionsNice time to spend a few hoursI liked it. Is it old? Yes. Could it use some updates? Yes. But it was easy to navigate. I thought the food options were fairly priced. Bathrooms were easy to find. My daughter was bummed about the penguin enclosure being under construction as that is her favorite, but overall it was a nice way to spend a couple of hours. Plenty of benches. The kids (Keiki) zoo is fun as is the large play area if you have smaller kiddos.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 January 2024

- IslandLifeis4Me46 contributionsFun 1/2 day with the family at a cute zooEnjoyable and fun for families-nice diversity of species. A smaller zoo but nothing wrong with that. Cafe area was delicious and pretty and the Keiko area was cool for kids under 10. Love the variety of birds wandering the property! Tip-go early and on a cool cloudy or drizzly day as more animals are out and active.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 February 2024
- jjlukeCalgary, Canada2,046 contributionsDecent way to spend a few hours but nothing out-of-this-worldThe Honolulu Zoo was a great way for us to kill a few hours on our long full day layover in Oahu. Admission was $21 per person at time of visit. There is an assortment of wildlife on site, and visitors can park in the lot adjacent to the property for a few hours. Despite being a smaller zoo relative to others we visited and it felt like the property could be kept up a bit better overall, the zoo layout/displays seemed set up to keep things interesting for us. The grounds were busy that day, but for a place like Honolulu, this should come as no surprise. Overall, the Honolulu Zoo was great for the few hours we visited, not the best value in the world but kept our interest as we had hoped. We took a cab from Hilton Hawaiian village for around $15 to the zoo We could have walked it but my kids would have been too tired to enjoy the zoo. The zoo itself is pretty small but packed with animals perfect for us who didn’t want to spend all day there. Admission was around $19per adult and $11 per child. Under 2 is free. If you use a credit card they charge you around $2.50 service charge . We spent around 3 hrs there and walked back along Waikiki beach to our hotel.

We're staying at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, so going to the zoo was a leisurely 2-3 block walk.
We thought the zoo was quite well laid out and seemed to have a good mix of animals (not just birds and animals native to Hawaii)..
There were lots of families visiting, and they have a really decent petting zoo area.. so kids will be well entertained there as well.. also a very large "play area" for kids too..
Lots of trees to provide a little shade throughout.
We thought it was a good outing and were surprised that the zoo offered as many different animals as it did...

Visited the first Thursday of December while we walked back from Diamond Head on our way to our Waikiki hotel as it was right on the way. But, it is an easy walk from most of the Waikiki hotels. It wasn't crowded and we enjoyed touring the zoo for about 2 hours viewing all the animals. We found the zoo to be clean and well kept. There were paved walking areas with plenty of directional signs to follow to ensure that you are able to see the exhibits that you want. Some areas are shaded, but I recommend bringing sunscreen to avoid a sunburn just in case you need it. We brought our own snacks to eat during a lunch break since there are benches available where you can sit. We also made a quick visit to the gift shop before leaving.

Terrible experience, and a terrible place for people with disabilities. Being in a wheel chair I could not see the animals. In the primates area they had a phyco path with a BULLHORN screaming at people, an employee. My son is autistic and I suffer for ptsd. The crazy employee with the bull horn triggered my son for the rest of the trip to the zoo. This is the worst zoo experience we have had, we are not children and screaming at us with a bullhorn is not the answer. This is zoo is not ADA or austim friendly or ptsd friendly. Only go here if you want to be screamed at like a your little child.

Get there early for parking. $1.50 per hour but easy to use your credit card to pay for parking. They text you when your time is about to run out and you can use your phone to extend your paid parking without getting a ticket. The zoo was fun. Many animals to see. We chatted with the zoo keeper for the turtles. Was cool as she placed their food (watermelon and flowers) out for them. Then she clapped and the turtles actually came out quickly to see their meal. And they followed her too. That was neat. We enjoyed the butterflies too. A nice place to visit. We had a great time. Discount for military families. Show ID for each member to receive discount. 🇺🇸

If you’re expecting to see a large zoo you’ll be disappointed. It took us about 1.5 hours to walk through the zoo. When you visit make sure it’s on a sunny day, it was drizzling when we went and most of the animals were inside where we couldn’t see them. We ate lunch at the zoo cafe. The food was good but it was very expensive.

We visited the Honolulu Zoo in January. Great display of many animals, reptiles, birds, etc. our favourite were the monkeys who put on a great continuous show for us, in addition to the elephants who were placing muddy water and dry dirt on their bodies to cool down (it was very hot and sunny the day we we visited). There is a very good amount of animals to see; those that complain that some of the animals were not out should realize that it was too hot for them to be out - I’m sure the complainers were going into the shade to cool down and get out of the intense sunlight.
We were very upset that the food cantina area sold bottled water in an aluminum bottle for an astronomical/inflated price. We ended up watering the grass with this “bottled tap water”; it was gross to drink and over $5.00 per bottle. Unfortunately, you cannot bring your own water or food into this zoo, therefore, you are stuck purchasing their products, or hold off until you leave the park.
We recommend visiting this zoo.

Visiting the zoo had been on my to do list for a while and I’m glad I finally did. Getting there was an easy walk from the Royal Hawaiian Center and the paths were marked to allow for one way travel through the exhibits. While families may easily spend a couple of hours at the zoo, I was able to see everything in a little over an hour. You will definitely get your exercise here, so come prepared. Every time I thought I had finished, another exhibit came up.

I was impressed with the natural large environment provided to the animals and birds.
This was a very quiet, peaceful area with birds singing providing a serene setting.
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our day at the Honolulu Zoo.
The only exception to my disappointment was the poor attitude of the 3 staff members we encountered. Purchasing the tickets was met with an unnecessary tone when I showed my Kamaaina license with my son having only his Hi. bank card. He was told he wouldn't be allowed in the next time without a license.
The staff member on a bike when first driving through myself and another couple instead of excusing himself told us to move over. Later that day at closing telling us the zoo was closing and my son not hearing him asked him to repeat. The staff member rudely stated, "That's what I said, " A few minutes later we were exiting the gate when another staff member at the exit, didn't say anything as we were expecting thank you or Aloha. My son pleasantly said, "Thank you, have a nice day. No response.
I didn't let this ruin our day, but I was very disappointed by lack of Aloha that Hawaii visitor industry markets to potential visitors.
I do recommend visiting the zoo. We have taken many photos of the wonderful animals and birds. Aloha!

We loved our visit to Honolulu Zoo. Hard to believe this little zoo is there on the main road on Waikiki with the beautiful Diamond Head in the background.
Love the fact that even though the enclosures were quite basic, you can easily see so many of the animals and you can see how very well they are cared for as well. Very informative zookeepers and volunteers. Lots of shade and seats to take a break. Lovely gift shop with lots to choose from. Not too expensive entry-fee wise. We really enjoyed our day here seeing a lot of animals that we have never seen before. Great way to take a break from the busy/craziness of Waikiki.

Does there a charge to park overnight at the zoo parking lot?
Written 1 August 2019
I believe the parking area is more street parking and maybe a lot close by. Probably you can. But there are many homeless people in the area. So do be careful of where you leave your vehicle and no belongings in it.

I did not see any so my suggestion would be no, only service dogs. If you want to go give them a call when you are there they will be only too pleased to answer the question better than I can for you.

Hoeveel is de prijs aan een bezoekje aan de Honolulu Zoo?
Written 12 March 2018
It is set up by the hour so you deposit enough money to cover the time you estimate your visit.. it is paid into a machine near the entrance. You can always exit to add money and re-enter.

Aloha. We are planning to stay in a hotel beside Honolulu zoo for 3 nights in May, 2017. I reviewed the parking lot status of Honolulu zoo and found it not easy to find one space. Besides, the parking company has changed (confirmation needed), and guests cannot park there for whole night. I would like to ask the current parking lot condition. If we could still park there overnight? Thank you very much!
Written 3 April 2017
We stayed in the hotel across the street from the zoo. If your hotel is close to the zoo and it sounds as if it is, I would walk to the zoo. Not sure about the parking because we walked.
