Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

A very nice green park with many giant banyan trees and open green space. We like to jog around the park as part of our workout. This park is full of people working out, playing soccer, football, exercising and just hangin' out in large groups, bbqs, etc. It's also right next to the ocean at the far end of Waikiki... More

Beautiful, clean, spacious park right in the middle of the city. Has few beaches where you can stop and swim.

We had a rugby carnival here and it was special - such a wonderful expanse of well kept and maintained parkland with so many facilities and just by the sea.

Great place to walk and lay around. Saturdays there is a market here with goods from local artists. Used to house the Queens royal horse track still somewhat visable.

The park is always clean. Artist Fair was a plus on Sunday. Take your suit if you want to take a dip, but there's a lot of coral and rocks at that beach.

Stopped and had a picnic here one day. Plenty of parking, shade, and benches. Nice breeze felt from Waikiki beach...ahhhhh! That's how picnics should be!

Kapiolani park and beach is not as full as Waikiki and therefore more relaxing. They often hold events there - we experienced the Okinawa festival which was quite a trip indeed

Kapiolani Park is expansive. It is possible to reach the park from most Waikiki hotels. You can also walk, jog, or exercise around the park. You can have a picnic there and use your hibachi. Great place to "people watch" and there are often soccer and other group activities to view. Location is excellent, as possibility of rain and showers... More

This was the site of the Hawaiian Royal Horse Racing Track and offers fantastic beaches, beautiful views of Diamond Head, local festivals, the Honolulu Zoo and Aquarium and "Art on the Fence" on Saturdays. It's a great place to just walk through or make a destination. Very popular on weekends, especially holiday weekends with the locals for cookouts. Less crowded... More

This is on the south end of Waikiki. It's another great park to go running, or take in a concert. On weekend they have locals selling their artwork and crafts. Another big bonus is the Honolulu Zoo is right there. A lovely well kept zoo. It's gotten better over the years. The Aquarium is right across the street. Plus a... More
