If the water isn't too rough, you'll be able to go out of the harbor area approaching the open ocean. Resting in the net area, you can get a refreshing splash of water rising up from the waves; make sure you don't mind getting water in your shoes or onyour clothes. If the weather is nippy, it may be a... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our sunset sail on the Privateer. This is a little different than a sunset sail on your typical tourist schooner. First, the catamaran is faster, so you go quite a bit farther out and see a little more (not a LOT more because most of the sights in Newport are pretty close to the harbor). Second, in... More

We had wanted to get onto another sail on a Sunday, but that outfit had chartered it's afternoon cruise, so our hotel got us on the Privateer. Beautiful, large catamaran. Great views of the harbor. Annoying carribean music playing. Would have liked a little travelogue...but you had to be near the skipper to hear anything and I was not going... More

We went on the sunset sail...the ride was beautiful! We had the option of riding on the nets...on benches or in a covered area. The ride was fun for all ages. It's away from the main wharf (Bowens) so if the CVB hadn't mentioned it, we might have missed it. That would have been a shame...it's a great ride!

We did a private charter for our guests before our rehearsal dinner. What a great activity, a catamaran is comfortable, stable (for those that don't sail this is important) fast and fun. Alison took care of all of our particular needs including changing the pick up/drop off location. Captain Doug adjusted his sailing so we could see the points of... More

Five of us went for a sail on a perfect day. The views were wonderful. I do wish there had been some narration. We enjoyed the music but it would have been nice to hear about a few of the site since it really is geared to tourists. We loved the sail but it can be a bit bumpy if... More

We took the “Sunset Sail” on the Privateer. My wife, myself and our 15 year old daughter. We had a very nice sail. This is a brand new catamaran that sails from the dock behind the Marriot Hotel. We saw a few of the "touristy" sail boats on the water that sail from Bowmen's dock and they looked very, very... More

I have been on most of the harbor tours in Newport, and the Privateer is by far the best! The crew is professional, friendly and accomodating. The boat is comfortable, fast and the smoothest sailing you will find here! There is no better way to see Newport - Highly recommended!

We had the opportunity to sail on this nice catamaran during tall ships week. We took the 5pm sail with two adults and 3 teen boys. Since it was not crowded, there was much room to move around. The boys enjoyed lounging on the netting over the water! Sail was smooth and we got pretty close to the coast. This... More
