I stayed overnight at the lighthouse as a light house keeper and there IS ELECTRIC POWER AND RUNNING WATER. The stay was awesome. Kayaked around the island . Watched the sunset and sunrise from the op of the lighthouse. Capt Chris picks you up at Fort Adams and takes you over. It was so peaceful watching the ships and sail... More

I understand you can pay to stay here and be light keeper, but the lighthouse has no water or electricity. No my kind of fun, but maybe for others.

There is something magical about a trip to Rose Island. I tagged along with a friend to see the place on a beautiful summer day and found myself utterly charmed by the place. Nestled at the foot of the Pell (Newport) Bridge, I had admired the lighthouse and island for years before setting foot on it...I was happy with that... More

Fine for the family. A lighthouse and military buildings. Magnificent view from all angles.Take the ferry and spend at least two hours exploring. Comb the rocky beaches for shells and sea glass. Watch the multitudes of sea birds and sailboats. Very enjoyable.

This is fun and interesting. All arranged thru the website and ferry co, you park in a designated lot in Jamestown, the ferry takes you to the island. We stayed overnight (benefits the Lighthouse foundation). When the lighthouse museum closes at 4pm, the island is yours, pretty much... they have 2 bedrooms, a bedroom in a separate building on the... More

My wife and I were on a Fall Foliage Tour and we stopped at the Fort Addams State Park for a pit stop. I was able to see the lighthouse from the park with a zoom lens with my camera. Love taking pictures of lighthouses. I added this to my collection. I believe in order to get to this lighthouse... More

I drove out to Goat island and took a left and just passed the parking garage took a right and there was a little parking area and band shell like pavilion where I was able to snap a few pictures of Rose Island Lighthouse at sunset. Perhaps not for the die hards who want to spend time there, but a... More

You have to take boat over, obviously, because it's on an island. After the Newport Bridge was built, the lighthouse was abandoned. For 14 years it fell victim to neglect. In 1984, volunteers of the RILF cleaned out and restored it to it's 1912 appearance. The lighthouse in in use again today, maintained by working vacationers on sign on for... More

Hesitant to give a great review, because we had such a wonderful time, and we want to keep the secret for ourselves! We were 2 couples & we stayed overnight in the first floor rooms. Like living in a museum, where you could actually sit & sleep on the furniture.
