This mansion differs from most of the other mansions in Newport as it contains the furnishings and objects as they existed when Doris Duke died in 1993 and left her home to the Restoration Society (as opposed to the Preservation Society that manages most of the other mansions). While the mansion dates to the late 1800's the interior reflects a... More

I'd put this number 2 on the list of mansions to see -- after the Breakers. You must take a guided tour. Our guide was new and not as experienced as we had at other mansions. The real story is the life of Doris Duke, which you won't hear much of on the tour. Therefore, read something about her before... More

We took the guided tour and enjoyed learning about the Dukes. The collection of furniture and art was incredible and it was impossible to see everything that was in each room. The mother of pearl in the bedroom was beyond description and beautiful.

We have been going to Newport for 25 years and have never seen this place. I stumbled upon it while jogging through Ocean Rd. We took the tour and walked the grounds of this incredible mansion. I highly recommend this tour. I liked it better than Breakers or Marble House as the views are panoramic and you see a more... More

This is not part of the main collection of mansions open to tour, run by a separate conservancy and requiring a separate ticket which you buy at the door. $25 per adult. But Duke was a character and a fine collector, making it worth the visit. She was particularly into Asian and Middle-Eastern Art, so there are some impressive Ming... More

One has to buy timed ticket online before going. So we had relatively small group and great guide. Interesting to learn more about Doris Duke, Since she lived here until the early 1990's the mansion is much more up to date than other newport mansions we visited

This was one of the best of the mansions that we visited and certainly wa s the best maintained. A former mansion of Doris Duke, the tobacco heiress, it had a stunning art collection and beautifully decorated rooms. It is maintained by the Newport Restoration Society, which is different from the Newport Preservation Society.

We had a little extra time after touring all the Mansions and decided to visit Rough Point, one of the homes of Doris Duke. It was just the way it was when she lived there with her many pets. The guide was great with so many personal stories about Ms. Duke, the dogs her camels, etc. We are go glad... More
