This is the street to get a good vibe of Newport. Yeah, touristy shops but also some local places as well. And plenty of restaurants to choose from

the main street of old Newport. many shops and restaurants. good mix of nice and more casual eateries and higher end shops with more touristy shops. some good water views. it is probably 12-16 blocks long

Our timeshare was right in the heart of this busy street with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and activities amidst a beautiful historic area. We always found some place interested to shop and eat each day we were there.

Full of restaurants, shopping, and water views. Nice to stroll along or stop to people watch. Saw 8 bachelorette parties in less than 2 hours! Clearly a place to have fun. Also, a great place for families to walk around and enjoy the sites.

The street is packed with restaurants, souvenir shops and specialty shops. Architecture varies and can be interesting. Explore wharfs and side streets

For a tourist area, this is well above average and in general filled with interesting shops and galleries.

Loved this street - great shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. You can keep yourself entertained all day just stopping into various places as you walk along!

worth a stroll, shops, local eateries, but watch out for the expensive street parking.....and do not park just anywhere, cars need a window sticker..

We will be going to Newport for 2 nights the beginning of March. We're going to tour a few of the mansions but would like to hit some shops too. I checked and 5 of the mansions are open - what about the shops on Thames street?
