In Newport, RI, the leading architects of the 19th and early 20th centuries built magnificent mansions for the nation's social and financial elite. These "summer cottages" provided the backdrop for a society centered on sport, fashion and parties in settings of spectacular natural beauty. Ten of these properties have been preserved by The Preservation Society of Newport County and are open to the public. From the homes of a colonial merchant and leading China traders of the Victorian era, to the great Italian and French Renaissance palaces of the Gilded Age, these houses span over 250 years of American architectural and social history.Visit the Newport Mansions: The Breakers, Marble House, Rosecliff, Chateau-sur-Mer, The Elms, Isaac Bell House, Kingscote, Chepstow, Hunter House, and Green Animals Topiary Garden.

I have been around most of the Mansions in the last few years. It is a great place to take my visitors. The gardens are all wonderful and a great place to sit and enjoy a sunny afternoon. They are all beautifully presented and the shops are all stocked with wonderful and unusual items.

This was a "bucket list" attraction, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. The tours are well-planned and consideration is made for visitors with mobility or language concerns. Many of the home include professionally scripted and presented self-guided audio tours. The homes are spread out, but free parking is available throughout the area. There is a trolley line which makes getting around... More

Have visited all of the mansions and each one has a flavor all its own. Travel back in history and get a glimpse of the Golden Age of Summer in Newport, RI. The beauty of these grand homes is also evident not just on the inside but also on the outside- grand gardens and wonderful vistas! Love them all!

This is definitely a must see when you visit Newport. It's extremely elaborate and ornate. There is a lot of history to be learned while taking the tour. Be prepared to spend at least an hour in each mansion.

The tour is really interesting however they do not allow strollers inside any of the properties, so I would not recommend it for groups with strollers or wheelchairs....

Visiting these mansions is awesome. It brings to back to time of grandeur. Each of the mansions have their own unique decor and story of the families that occupied these homes. Newport Preservation Society does a great job of restoring these homes.

There is little else to say except that you have to come to Newport once in your life and see how you are not living. These houses defy description...than can only be experienced. You have to walk the marbled floors and marvel at the detail. There is a lot of walking involved so expect that and plan accordingly. Use the... More

We toured the breakers only. This was a two hour tour. We listened to all the extras on the audio. Seeing the one house was enough for us. We also walked the cliff walk. Wonderful tour and walk. Worth going.

These mansions are breathtaking! If you have the time get the value visit which is 3 mansions on one ticket. Our you can get one added to you ticket for an additional $5.00 The price for one is $19.00 for adult and $5.00 for youths to 17. I would recommend the Breakers-Home of the Vanderbilt's and The ELMS. Some of... More

We only saw the Breakers because of time constraints, but were told it was the best one. Great audio tour, it can be done in a good hour.
