This is a must see drive... the rolling coastline and breathtaking views are worth the drive. The scenic views are beautiful, and the homes make you want to stay and live the life of a Newport, Rhode Islander. Again, as I drove and saw the...More

I have driven this many times in my travels to RI. I do not tire of the views or the architecture. The road is pleasant to drive (with some sharp turns here and there). There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the view,...More

Like many others who've grown up taking a ride "around the Drive" on a special occasion, or for no reason at all, the Ocean Drive occupies a very special place in my heart. Since the 50's, my family and I have taken the approximately ten...More

Somewhat hidden from sight until you're right up on the ocean but a beautiful drive. Windy but easy to navigate, good way to take in the RI coastline.

We went on Ocean Drive twice during our trip...once on the Trolley and once, at sunset, on our own. The homes along the way are magnificent, as well as the views of the water.

Not quite on the scale of the Breakers, but large by any standard. Most of them don't appear to be from the gilded age, but impressive nonetheless. You do need a car of course. A short but nice drive.

Did this 2 mornings running on the Brompton. Hills were within the limits of this ageing cyclist on a 3 speed Brompton! The nature, wild life and views on the circuit are amazing. Would recommend early morning for the best experience. This is a great...More

A short 10 mile drive along the coast, passing many of the older homes and some newer construction. Great views of the ocean.

Took a leisurely drive along the road, and saw some beautiful houses, mostly new construction, but built to make the most of the water views. Very calming!

Accessible, unobstructed views of this remnant rocky Atlantic Ocean coastline from the ice age. Picnic areas, overlook areas and a great place for Kite Flying enthusiasts.

Where do you start the Newport RI Ocean Drive tour? What is there to see if we drive on our own? Your comments make it sound exciting. Just 72/77 senior citizens who like to walk and take pictures. Thanks you.

Start at the end of Bellevue Ave., turn right and stop as you see spots to do so (Brenton Park, viewpoints, finish off heading by Fort Adams, a nice sightseeing spot).

Is there a separate paved trail for cycling or walking? Or do cyclists ride on the street with cars alongside? Are there too many pedestrians to make cycling on the same trail prohibitive?

There is not a bike trail, it is all walking.....in some area you have to walk over rocks and there really is not a trail....
Hi, Would love to drive this route on my way back from Cape Cod to New Jersey. Is that a possibility? What highway would I have to take to get to Ocean Drive RI? Thanks in advance....looking forward to this since the reviews are so great.

I absolutely agree with the posting about hopping on 6 to 195 to get to Newport from the cape, but I also think by taking rt 138 vs 114 off of 24 once you get to the general area you will not only get a far more scenic ride... More
