Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

Rosecliff is so beautiful and the grounds are overlooking the water. The property is full of lovely gardens. Everyone was very nice. Listening on head phones we heard about all of the family members one by one. They told about every room who attended the...More

The story about the house and its owners and as impressive as its architecture. Put it on your list of the 5-House package that includes the Breakers. I though I would be bored looking at houses but soon, I became really interested in the whole...More

Rosecliff is just beautiful and the grounds overlooking the ocean are breathtaking. The Easter Egg Roll is always a lot of fun and it's neat to eat brunch in the ballroom which is typically roped off for tours. Rosecliff does not have a kid audio...More

Lovely property with picturesque gardens overlooking the ocean. We visited with our 17 month old son, and the staff were very kind and accommodating.

We toured the five standard mansions in Newport last week, and Rosecliff was my wife's favorite. It simply felt like it would be a delightful place to live or to party!! There is plenty of light, and the decor is not heavy or overdone. This...More

We went on a tour with out of town guests and thought a tour of a mansion would be a great idea. We chose Rosecliff. The one thing I find about Rosecliff is that it is the most livable of many of the Preservation Society's...More

I found the other mansions with interesting history, but Rosecliff had the most intriguing history to me. I found the flooded ballroom to be such a New England story!

Lovely mansion with extensive beautiful gardens at front and at rear (sea view lawn for weddings) that has hosted at least 2 major films and countless weddings. Mansions can be rented by the Newport Preservation Society.
