The first synagogue in America is a gem. The interior style is similar to the colonial churches nearby. It is administered by the synagogue and closed if there are religious services or events. Make sure to check their website or call for opening days and times. Well worth a visit, built in the 1600's.

Step back in time and learn the history of the oldest jewish house of worship in the country. And also learn how RI was tolerant to all religions. Worth the visit.

Oldest synagogue in the US. Our guide had fascinating stories to tell. You don't see as much as in the synagogues in Amsterdam e.g., but nevertheless very interesting history.

Interesting learning about the history of the Jewish faith in America. This is the oldest synagogue in the US. There are tours available and a nice visitor center with a movie. Close to the main drag of Newport, it's worth seeking out.

Our guide, Lew, made what could have been a dull tour come to life! The architecture inside the synagogue is amazing. His history lesson was interesting and thought provoking. There is also a small park and visitor's center that is worth spending some time.

This is the oldest synagogue in the US and is still used as a house of worship today. Check website for tour times and availability to see this beautiful building. The history is fascinating. There is a visitor center and audio tour. George Washington's letter to RI's Jewish residents is a must read. Be sure to visit the garden as... More

The oldest still in use synagogue in America. Rich in history that was perfectly explained by our tour guide. The Touro synagogue played an important historical part in the formation of our country. No matter your faith, this a must see in Newport.

At a glance the building is modest and unassuming and in the off season it's only open for a visit one day a week (Sunday). Plan carefully as this is a must-not-miss sight in Newport, and in the United States as a whole. Established in 1763, it is the oldest standing synagogue in the country, but more importantly it represents... More
