This was an unplanned, yet pleasant stop. We did not go into any of the buildings or even get out of our truck. We weren't even certain that we were allowed. We slowly cruised through the lot, observing the way they honor their loved ones who have passed. Brilliant colors were everywhere, it was quite interesting, even though we didn't even get out.

Approach Stones River National Battlefield from the north on Old Nashville Pike, or drive a bit north from the battlefield. Suddenly, a surprise appears: A small but brilliantly colored elaborate Buddhist Temple! Totally unexpected in the middle of Civil War history and Tennessee farms, but just beautiful. Brightly painted pagodas, gold statues, flowers everywhere. It is also a cremation cemetery, but they welcome a respectful drive-through. I'm sure you'd be welcome to get out and enjoy the statues and garden (a little offering to a statue might be nice, just out of respect). I don't know yet if they welcome visitors inside, but I intend to find out :-). I only briefly spoke with a monk who was very gracious.

I have often passed this temple, but did not realize it was a welcoming and beautiful place to visit. After reading another advisor's review, I decided to stop by and peruse the grounds. Not only is the temple beautiful from passing by, but the ornate time and thought put into this place of worship was most intricate. Much detail has been injected into the uplifting and artistic detail. Overall this was a most unique insight into the Buddhist culture.

We stopped by today to see what was going on. The people in this spiritual community were preparing for a festival tonight. Booths were being set up for games, food and fun. Music was playing. We were told that this is a way for them to raise funds for the temple since money is not collected during worship service. We were also told that in May thousands will converge on the New Year’s celebration. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

My first time there as a vendor at this temple, the temple itself was fine, but workers were so rude. I have talked to other vendors and they said the same thing. I hope in the future all those folks need to know how to educate themselves with respectful manners to either vendors or visitors that come support the temple.

The outside is very colorful and special to see in this area. It was locked, but interesting to see people not usually recognized practicing their religiion. I think it'd be better to visit when it's warmer and the public is invited.

I was thrilled to learn that a Buddhist Temple exists in Murfreesboro. I went there and felt such peace. The monks were in a session or class of some sort when i was there. So i just visited the first temple as i entered and said a prayer and left an offering at Buddha. I recommend stopping by for sure. Very peaceful.

Very serene and peaceful. Very detailed and colorful. Several monks were inside praying but no one else around. I wanted to ask so many questions but I guess it was meant for me to enjoy the peace.

In the heart of hillbilly Tennessee beats a peaceful heart. Buddhist shrines normally send a riot of color to the heavens, but this one goes even beyond that. Lao in origin, it's a marvel of angle, bright and application. Nowhere here was the easy way taken. That is the key to a peaceful mind.
If you've passed this, stop and reflect a moment. If you haven't, come see it. It's worth a visit. I'm leaving a picture of the sign. The Wat is a picture of its own and would be a great post, but also a disservice to those who would otherwise come see. Come and see. Don't be satisfied with the picture.

Enjoy going to the temple and the monks and people there are very welcoming. They have made improvements in the last 18 months and they are working to keep improving the grounds.

I don't know but I would guess they would be. Other temples in the area are open with proper precautions.

I see a sign in some of the photos that say "Tickets $10." Are they charging an entry fee to visit the temple?
Written 19 June 2017
There are sometimes festivals at the temple (Lao New Year, etc.) and they do charge a fee for those. However, there is certainly no fee just to visit.
Written 28 July 2019
How do they feel about visitors to their services, for those who really like the buddhist philosophy? Are "outsiders" welcome?
Written 21 September 2016
I'm not sure. Then again I don't see why not. Go down to temple and ask. :)
