What an amazing museum. They touch on everything from coal to lace factories. This is a great place for students to learn how thing were done in "The days".

I visited the museum when I visited my friends in Scranton. It was really good. If you are planning to visit Scranton, it is one of the things that needs to be on your to do list.

The exhibits are quite nice and the facility is equally nice. The building is packed with interesting and informative exhibits. They offer a video which sets the table for the exhibits. I would budget about 2 hours, more if you read slow. The staff were all helpful and friendly

Many of my family were coal miners (though not in the Scranton area) so I took a bunch of kids here. I'd recommend this for perhaps kids 8 and up. The two 5-year-olds were bored silly but the 7-year-olds were almost ready for it. A lot of the exhibits are about coal mining which was interesting. There's a beautiful parlor... More

This was a very informative and interesting tour. This is a good way for all ages to see how coal was extracted. On the tour you ride in a car, that was used to transport miners, down into an actual retired coal mine.

I wasn't expecting much for a coal museum but this one was so engrossing! It covers a wide array of daily life that goes with coal mining. I wish we had left more time to see the exhibits. The staff was so nice. Definitely a must see!

Very informative. Refreshing place to visit when it's 90 degrees out. Be sure to bring jackets, it did get cold down there. My 9,11 and 13 year old grandchildren enjoyed it.

Some things that you may need to know: The Museum and the Coal Mine Tours are two separate attractions with each having it's own admission . The Museum is wonderful . Expect to be there more than an hour. If you are from the area you probably know or are related to someone that "worked the mines". You will leave... More

I grew up in a coal town but never seen the mines. This was a great tour for all ages. The guides were very knowledgeable.

The coal miners in northeastern Pennsylvania worked long, hard hours to earn a small pay. They started as children, often 10 to 12 years old, working on the breakers and then going below. We learned what company housing and company stores were and how the miner's paycheck went first to these people with a small pittance to the miners. Our... More
